Hey everyone. Is it a sin if you hug someone knowing that this man is going to put his hand on your breast outside of your clothing? Is this a mortal sin since you are causing the person to lust after you?

Why on earth would you willingly hug someone who touches you in an inappropriate manner?!? You can and should say “No” if he tries to hug you, and turn away/to the side, or walk away.

Begging your pardon, but I’m a little unclear …

Let me get this straight:
  1. You know (somehow) that if you hug someone, they will grope you inappropriately
  2. You hug them anyway
  3. They grope you inappropriately
And you wonder if you did anything wrong?

I suppose it would depend on why you hugged them. Was it because you think they needed the emotional support of a hug or because you secretly enjoy and enable the inappropriate groping?

Apologies if “you” is the incorrect pronoun.

It seems to me that a drop kick would be in order. Stay away form anyone that does such things. Family included.

wow weird question.
  1. how did you know he would grope you? and
  2. why did he grope you?
Are you/he married?

Neither of us are married. I don’t exactly approve of the groping and I don’t actually give him permission to do it but he does it anyway. I do this so he’ll give me a cigarette. Did I commit a mortal sin or not? That’s all I want to know.

I talked to my spiritual director and he said I did not commit a sin.

You should have asked your spiritual director anyway. There are 3 conditions for mortal sin:
  1. Grave Matter
  2. Know its grave matter
  3. Commit sin freely of one’s own will (more complex than I ever realized because it deals with culpability, external factors)

It doesn’t really sound like the right thing to do, does it? Would you ask the question if you felt comfortable with it?

I don’t wish to be rude, but exchanging sexual favours (albeit fairly minor ones) for material gain is undignified.

Was your spiritual director the man who hugs/gropes/ gives you a smoke after?

It was of grave matter, but since you didn’t know, you didn’t commit a mortal sin.

I don’t know if your behavior is sinful or not. But if there was something small I could do (such as not hugging someone) that would help them to keep from sinning (at least something that could encourage them to sin less), I would gladly do it for the sake of their soul.

Whether or not it was, you really should not let him use you like this. It is very demeaning and innapropriate for him to do so and you are more than in the right to demand that he stop. Also… think about it, just because he is happy to stay at this level now… if he is using you for his own pleasure now, what is to stop him from wanting, and pursuing, further actions against your will? I know this isn’t exactly what you asked, but this is a very unhealthy relationship and I would stay as far away from this man as I posibly could if I were you. Don’t give in and let him have his way next time. Instead stand up for your own dignity, you feel uncomfortable with this because you know you are not meant to be used like this. Don’t let him cross such boundaries… who knows where he will want it to end.

You did it for a cigarette? There has to be someone else willing to give you a cigarette who wouldn’t touch you like that. Its a little weird. If you don’t approve of it then tell him off. Be clear on your boundaries.

Now you know, though. So next time it will be a sin. You’re basically selling yourself sexually.

Still trying to wrap my head around this one. I’m not understanding why a cigarette is worth being inappropriately touched…

We don’t know what country she is from, or how poor she is…
