I was just wondering. Would God condemn me to hell if I were to clone a human?

“Techniques of fertilization in vitro can open the way to other forms of biological and genetic manipulation of human embryos, such as attempts or plans for fertilization between human and animal gametes and the gestation of human embryos in the uterus of animals, or the hypothesis or project of constructing artificial uteruses for the human embryo. These procedures are contrary to the human dignity proper to the embryo, and at the same time they are contrary to the right of every person to be conceived and to be born within marriage and from marriage.(32) Also, attempts or hypotheses for obtaining a human being without any connection with sexuality through “twin fission”, cloning or parthenogenesis are to be considered contrary to the moral law, since they are in opposition to the dignity both of human procreation and of the conjugal union.”
It’s right up there with IVF. It’s gravely wrong.

God entered into a Covenant of sorts with Adam and Eve. Wherein he created there physical bodies, and their immortal souls. God always grants an immortal soul to every conception humans make by sexual union. Cloning acts outside of the natural order he created, and the commitment He makes to infuse an immortal soul in that order. By cloning, He is forced to act outside the natural order he himself made. So it should be a serious sin from this viewpoint.

Do you think we would be forcing God to imbue a soul into a clone that He doesn’t want to? Or would He not imbue a soul into the clone?

I’m just trying to understand your statement, not trying to be argumentative. How could we be forcing God to do anything against His desire?

Thank you.

I see. Thank you very much. It became clear to me now. Cloning really is a bad thing.

So if we know its a sin, to what sin is it categorized? Would it belong to pride?

It is written, “You shall not take the Name of the Lord, your God, in vain,” and again, “You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test.”

I apologize if either of my questions did so. I am sorry and will not ask these questions again.

You did nothing wrong; I was simply answering your question about why cloning is wrong. God indeed creates souls for people conceived by evil means, but attempting to control God is evil, so He justly condemns those who do such things, even though the child so conceived is him/herself a good thing.

God created the laws of nature, in regards to procreation. When the sperm and egg come together, a complete set of DNA begins the process of developing a body. I suggest that the same happens when scientists create a complete set of DNA in a cell to make a clone. Unless you wish to get in to a discussion about ensoulment, and when that happens. (The Church has not defined, but generally teaches at conception.) Then the same would happen in the cloning process, God creates a soul for the clone, but against the natural order. Otherwise you would have to argue that clones are soulless?

I not a theologian. But, it seems to me it would involve sins of Pride, in violating the first commandment. The scientists would be playing God here. Also a sin against the Fifth commandment which deals with the use of sex, and thus it relates to a sin against the marriage sacrament.

People can argue all kinds of crazy nonsense. That doesn’t make them right.

I guess Star Wars: Clone Wars gives an example of one way human clones might potentially be mistreated.

I agree…I’m just wondering if there are any biblical or theological arguments they could twist or massage into making those arguments?

And how many folks would agree. Guess we’ll know eventually as clones will eventually happen, whether we want it to or not!
