Human Genome Project

I think this is the place for this posting. I am increasingly concerned about developments in cell biology and genetics related to human genome project. Specifically, it seems that we are getting closer to the brave new world imagined by Aldous Huxley. Human cloning, the creation of chimeras (beings who share the DNA of several species) genetic engineering (parents selecting the traits of their children) and many other things seem to be not only possible but likely. Those readers who want to see a very provocative film about this should watch Gattaca (produced by Danny DeVito) which only scratches the surface of the political, moral, ethical, legal, medical etc. issues of such technology. I have spoken to several cell biologists who have confirmed my concerns. I have no specific questions but would be interested in a discussion of these matters.

It’s true…Pandora’s box has been opened and the future looks scary. We need good Christians overseeing this thing. Francis Collins was in charge of this project and he’s a believer but his views on embryonic stem cells are still somewhat troubling. Keep praying!
