Hmmm… okay, yes, on further reflection I see that I was too slow in my thinking and too fast with my mouth. To the extent that the umbrella is efficient at directing the airflow rearword, there will indeed be some net thrust.

I’ve got fifty bucks that says that it’s nowhere near enough to move a manned mop bucket. Maybe a very light sled on wet ice.

Most annoying probably because of the broad spectrum of the noise, a combination of the gas engine exhaust plus the blower turbine whine. Just thinking about it is irritating to me!

Electric leaf blowers are a little better because the motor is quieter and delivers less power to the turbine. Even so, I have to wear ear plugs when I operate my electric leaf blower.
