I wanted to update this thread, as my husband has had a change of heart, and will be taking me to the Saturday 5pm mass from now on, as he has decided that I talk a lot of sense when we discuss faith issues, and he can trust me to make my own decisions, as he is not my boss. That’s pretty much word for word. He has no intention of joining me, but having his help will be invaluable. Thank you for praying for me, I am so encouraged.

Another prayer is answered!

My husband has made it clear that he is totally opposed to my conversion. He and the children are very settled and happy at our current church. I am disabled and have no option to rely on him for transport and so cannot get to mass - and even when he has been softer of heart about letting me go on a Saturday, he makes sure some crisis comes up and I have to stay in with the children. He has softened towards Catholic things, but made it clear a few weeks ago that he is happy for me to go ‘on occasion’ and no more than that.

I want to honour his position as head of the household, and he is a good man, but I find myself stuck, unable to move forward. This has been going on for a long time. I don’t really know why I’m posting about this, except to have someone say they’ve heard me.
I just wanted you to know that you are not alone. My husband (and even some family members) are not happy about my last conversion. I am a revert to the Catholic faith (cradle catholic, went my own way during high school and became a non-practicing Catholic who just showed up to Church for Baptisms, Weddings, funerals, etc.) 15 years ago I came back into the Church to practice my faith after Jesus healed me physically and 4 years ago, had a very deep and moving conversion that changed my life and since, have met some very stiff opposition within my own family.

I know how you feel when your so happy and joyful and want to share the amazing things that God has done for you and you want to go to Church to celebrate the Mass and thank God for the gift of His Son Jesus and for saving you and your own husband does not share your enthusiasm. I agree with the people who posted that you should be more compassionate to your husband and to pray for him. May I suggest to also fast for him as well. I found these online resources to be helpful and my husband has also been open to listening to some of the audio cd’s - maybe our husband will too.

May the Holy Spirit guide you and protect you and lead your husband to repentance and conversion.

That’s wonderful news! 🙂

got to mass, it was great. I didn’t embarrass myself by doing anything stupid, and managed to follow along what was happening even though I couldn’t make head or tail of the mass booklet. No one spoke to me, and the priest just shook my hand and sped off at the end, but that’s ok, I’ll get to know people the more I go, I suppose.

Yes you will get to know people better as time goes by Welcome home.

Thank you for the update. So glad to hear things are going well. 👍

May I suggest that if you want to meet the people in the parish the best thing is to join a group of some sort. They will probably find a way to help you get to the meetings if you explain your circumstances.

Such Great news! God certainly does hear our prayers and softens hearts that need it. Your husband sounds like a very special man who loves you very much. His reaction sounds a bit like my husband. When he overreacts, 99% of the time he comes back with an open heart and mind. We are blessed.

Please keep us updated on your journey into Catholicism.

God Bless You.

You’ll get the hang of it as you go along.

No one spoke to me much at first, either. It takes time to get to know other parishioners. As far as the priest speeding off, I liken our pastor to a hummingbird. And he’s got to be pushing 80! Priests are so busy they appear to move at just under the speed of light to get their jobs done. 😃
