I’m still in shock. My husband has been laid off as of today.
He won’t be going to work any more…that is how they do it at his company, they just tell you that you don’t have a job anymore and you stop going.
I feel sad and scared. I don’t know what we are going to do. I know it could be a LOT worse - I’m a grad student and I think we can make ends meet on my stipend with some serious belt-tightening. And we don’t have any children to worry about.
Still, I am very worried. We closed on a house less than two weeks ago - I’m so frustrated that the timing worked out like this. Why couldn’t his company have done this two months ago when we could’ve backed out?
The mortgage will be less than rent…but still, what if we need to make a major repair? He will get some severance pay, but that will only last about 4 months. We live in an economically depressed area of the country (well, things are rough everywhere…but especially here). I’m not optimistic about him finding employment anytime soon.
I’d appreciate your prayers for our family and any advice or suggestions you might have. I am going to do my best to work through my own fear and be a strong, supportive wife to him.
