Husband in hospital

Thanks to God and all of your wonderful prayers, my husband is home today from the hospital. He would have been home earlier but they had to wait for a fever he develop to leave and for his therapeutic level of coumadin. Now he needs to get a medical bracelet that the nurse recommended in case he should get into a car accident. He could get internal bleeding. He has a follow appointment on Monday. He will be fine. Thanks to all of you again. God bless you all and may you all have a great and safe Thanksgiving Day.

I will keep you and your husband in my prayers. I did not read this thread until now so I am late in responding. I am sure your doctor brought you and your husband up to speed on how one`s diet can interact with coumadin. You have to be especially careful not to eat a lot of leafy veggies with vitamin K, or it can decrease the effectiveness of coumadin. There are a lot of good websites with information on this.

And there are multi vitamins that do not contain Vit. K. This is necessary when taking Coumadin (warfarin).

Mary Bobo you are very right. I should have worried my response to say that it is very important to eat the same amount of vitamin K on a daily basis. Suddenly eating a lot of green veggies, like spinache, can decrease the effectiveness of Coumadin and lower your INR, whereas suddenly stopping eating this foods, can have the opposite effect and increase the INR to dangerous levels. It is not my intention to give medical advice, I just wanted to flag this for you Nana3. I am sure your doctor gave you lots of info on this. Please PM me if you would like me to send you some relevant websites.
