hymn lyrics?

I’ve often vented about how much I dislike modern hymns, but we did one today I liked. I was looking for the lyrics, but a Google search has turned up nothing, and I don’t have a hymn book. The title is either “We Shall Rise” or “We Will Rise.” and has a chorus that goes, “We shall/will rise again, on the last day…” Where can I find these lyrics, so I can annoy my dog singing this hymn at home all week?

I think the name of the hymn could be* I Am The Bread of Life*?

No, that’s not the name. I think it’s We Shall Rise Again. I like that song too!😃

Believe it may be “We Will Rise Again” by David Haas. **

David Haas writes some wonderful contemporary hymns. He has another called “Saints of God” that is perfect for the incensing at funerals.

The refrain is “And I will raise YOU up” not “raise HIM up”. A subtle distinction, but the song is sung from the perspective of God (which if you think about it, is a bit weird for a hymn the people sing during the Mass).

I like the song as well, but I also tend to agree with a common criticism of that type of hymn (which has the people singing “God’s” part) that it tends to diminish the focus on worship of God in the liturgy.

It is a nice tune, though, particularly for use during funeral masses.

Grammatically, “I will raise him up” is correct. "I will raise ‘you’ up is a concession to gender-neutralism. “He who comes to me shall not hunger . . . and I will raise him up . . .” I believe the neutral versions also read: “. . .Who comes to me . . .” rather than “He who comes to me . . .”; you just sing one note.

I agree with you. “Him” would be more in keeping with the text of John 6. But then again it wouldn’t be so “catchy”. And OCP hymns are all about being “catchy”.
 
Yeah, that’s not the same song I’m looking for. Seems there’s a line about an “open door.” I know the one you’re mentioning. This one I’m looking for is very, very wordy. It’s an athletic feat to get through it. Also that passgae from Isaiah about running and growing weary isn’t in the song I’m looking for.

This pertains to one of the sidelines here – the original refrain for “I Am the Bread of Life” WAS “He will raise you up”, etc. The words got changed some time in the 70s or 80s to make them stupidly gender neutral.

Does the refrain go like this?

We shall rise again, on the last day,
with the faithful, rich and ppor.
Come into the house of Lord Jesus,
We will find an open door there,
We will find an open door?

I think it’s called “We shall rise again”, but I’ll have to double check in my hymn book. It’s a beautiful hymn, one of my favourites!
