Weekend Edition Sunday, November 18, 2007 · It’s about time for the Southern Baptist Convention to put out a new hymnal, and the move to update the songs has caused a little tension.

A glut of new worship songs has led to sweeping changes in the forthcoming hymnal. For the first time, nearly half of the pages will be filled with songs never before published by Baptists.
Code:
The Southern Baptist Convention has put out a new hymnal every 15 years or so since 1904. The last hymnal came out in 1991.

Hmmm, wonder if they’ll have some of the “hits” by Haugen and Haas? Too bad they’ll be changing it. (sad really, that was the one thing I’ve missed since becoming Catholic. The good music! )

And not to start a flame war, I know that there are some great Catholic hymns. Sadly, it’s the newer stuff thats

I’m glad I hung on to my old ones. It makes interesting reading. The wealth of meaning it the lyrics are so much great than most newer songs.
