What hymns that you have sung (or heard sung) at Mass have “Holy, Holy, Holy” in them? (I don’t mean just in the title.)

So far, I have thought of:
  • Holy God, We Praise Thy Name (verse 2)
  • Holy, Holy, Holy
I’m sure there’s more.

In the Catholic Book of Worship there is
Holy, Lord.

Also, the Te Deum.

Come Holy Ghost, Creator Blest

Hail Holy Queen enthroned above

Here’s a few:

Holy Holy Holy Lord God Almighty

O Sanctissima (Translated into English means “O Most Holy One”)

Thanks for your suggestions so far. Perhaps I wasn’t clear at first.

I’m not interested in hymns which just mention the word “holy”. I am specifically interested in those which include some form of the Trisagion (thrice-holy). The Sanctus is, of course, the place where it is found in the Order of the Roman Rite. Hymns like “Holy, Holy, Holy (Lord God Almighty)” and “Holy God We Praise Thy Name” are good examples.

Not sure if this Catholic Song fits your criteria:

romaaeterna.jp/romanhmn/rh074.html
O GOD ALMIGHTY FATHER / Trinity
(“Refrain”) O Most Holy Trinity, Undivided Unity
Though perhaps its rarely heard throughout the year except Trinity Sunday.

Maybe I’m what some would call an archaic Catholic who likes hearing older traditional Catholic songs sung during Mass. I don’t know, seems “some” of this New so called Catholic music doesn’t edify me. I heard the same from other older Catholics.
My apologies if I’m sounding negative here.

I think you were pretty clear. You want hymns that have the phrase, “Holy, holy, holy,” (or the equivalent) as an actual line in the hymn. Holy, Holy, Holy has the line at the beginning of each verse. Holy God We Praise Thy Name contains the phrase, “Holy, holy, holy Lord!” in the second verse (and also has the phrases, “Holy Father, Holy Son, Holy Spirit…” in the fourth verse.)

I cannot think of any other traditional hymns that have the words, “Holy, holy, holy,” in them. I know if at least one contemporary Catholic song which borrows the words and melody from Holy, holy, Holy (Lord God Almighty) and I think there may be other contemporary songs which use those words but I’m pretty sure that’s not what you are looking for.

I looked through the limited selection of hymns at the back of my old (1966) St. Joseph’s missal and while there was at least one hymn that addressed all three persons of the Blessed Trinity there were none that used the phrase, “Holy, holy, holy,” other than the two hymns already mentioned. (And there were only two verses for Holy God We Praise Thy Name.)

“God We Praise You” first verse

1 God, we praise you! God, we bless you!
God, we name you sovereign Lord!
Mighty King whom angels worship, Father, by your church adored:
all creation shows your glory, heaven and earth draw near your throne
singing
* "Holy, holy, holy, *Lord of hosts, and God alone!"

“Sing to the Mountains”

Refrain:
***Holy, holy, ***
holy Lord
Heaven and earth
are full of your glory
.

The God of Abraham Praise (Tune: Leoni)

The God of Abraham praise,
who reigns enthroned above;
Ancient of everlasting days,
and God of love;
The Lord, the great I AM,
by earth and heaven confessed:
I bow and bless the sacred Name
for ever blessed.

The God of Abraham praise,
at whose supreme command
from earth we rise, and seek the joys
at his right hand;
we all on earth forsake,
its wisdom, fame and power;
and him our only portion make,
our Shield and Tower.

The goodly land we see,
with peace and plenty blessed:
a land of sacred liberty
and endless rest;
there milk and honey flow,
and oil and wine abound,
and trees of life for ever grow,
with mercy crowned.

There dwells the Lord, our King,
the Lord, our Righteousness,
triumphant o’er the world and sin,
the Prince of Peace;
on Zion’s sacred height
his kingdom he maintains,
and, glorious with his saints in light,
for ever reigns.

The God who reigns on high,
the great archangels sing,
and **“Holy, holy, holy,” **cry,
“Almighty King!”
Who was and is the same,
and evermore shall be:
Eternal Father, great I AM,
we worship thee."

The whole triumphant host
give thanks to God on high;
“Hail, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost”
they ever cry;
hail, Abraham’s God and mine;
I join the heavenly lays;
all might and majesty are thine,
and endless praise!

There’s the MercyMe song, Open the Eyes of My Heart.
tsrocks.com/m/mercyme_texts/open_the_eyes_of_my_heart_lord.html

Open the eyes of my heart Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
I want to see You
I want to see You

To see you high and lifted up
Shining with the light of your glory
Lord, pour out your power and love
As we sing Holy, Holy, Holy
In this offshoot I would include Phillips Craig and Dean’s song: Revelation Song (as in The Book of The Revelation)

youtube.com/watch?v=5NN9hX61vhg

(Chorus)
Holy, Holy, Holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come
With all creation I sing:
Praise to the King of Kings!
You are my everything,
And I will adore You…!

“And Holy, Holy, Holy is His Name” is a hymn from the setting for the canticle of Mary…the “Magnificat,” right after she said “Because he that is mighty hath done great things to me; and Holy is his name.” Made into song by Bob Haas (I think) and can be found in the Sprit and Song hymnal from Oregon Catholic Press, online is where I found someone who posted the above name of the person who wrote it and where to get it online.🙂

Ah, the beautiful “Holy, Holy, Holy” by Franz Schubert! I used to play this years ago when I was organist at my church.

God, We Praise You also features the phrase “Holy, holy, holy”.
  1. God we praise you! God we bless you!
    God, we name you sovereign Lord!
    Mighty King whom angels worship,
    Father by your Church adored.
    All creation shows your glory,
    Heav’n and earth draw near your throne,
    Singing “Holy, holy, holy”
    Lord of hosts and Lord alone.
This is another version of the Te Deum, by the way.

There’ a nice Gary Sadler P&W song from 1994’s “King of Ages” album. The refrain goes:

“Holy Lord, God of majesty and wonder/ Holy God, it is you whom we adore/ Tribes and tongues make a song like holy thunder:/ Singing Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord!”
