Hymns to Mary for the Month of May

We sang “Bring Flowers of the Rarest” the last two weekends at Mass. I love it’s sweet simplicity and innocence. Just yesterday my children & I brought the statue of Our Lady n the backyard a carnation for Mother’s Day. May we always remain like loving children in the eyes of our Blessed Mother. I loved it when my children were young and brought we flowers they had picked, I’m sure she is the same.
 

Mary Immaculate, Star of the morning,
Chosen before the creation began,
Chosen to bring, for your bridal adorning,
Woe to the serpent and rescue to man.

Here in an orbit of shadow and sadness,
Veiling your splendor, your course you hast run;
Now you are crowned in All glory and gladness,
Crowned by the hand of your Savior and Son.

Mary Immaculate, Mother of God.
 
I love that first version of “Bring Flowers of the Fairest”. My mom loved that song and would sing it around the house when I was a child. It also cropped up at the occasional Marian devotions that Mom would have to scout around to find at the few parishes that had them in the 60s and 70s.
 
Here’s an interesting version of “Mother Dear o Pray for Me”, another one I remember from childhood devotions. Mom had to explain to me that a “bark” was a boat and it didn’t have anything to do with a dog.
