We’ll never understand the teaching if we don’t understand the terms. If we don’t understand the teaching, how can we really be free to accept or reject it?I do understand your frustration with the terms… I agree with you there, I wish it were easier to describe.
Links to Humanae Vitae can never be posted too often.I like going back to some of the church writings on the subject… Humanae Vitae is great… (emphasis is mine)
I have taken the time to read it and I agree wholeheartedly with your assesment. I think we need to take it a step further though, and not just read and quote it but talk about it, in our own words even. If we can internalize its message our lives and our discussions become a witness to the power of its truth. Rather than simply condemning contraception, I think we win hearts by being positive examples of the fullness of the authentic Catholic life.I encourage you to read through the entire document… yes it’s long, but it’s an absolutely beautiful tribute to marital love.
The lessons of HV are valuable for a culture that lacks respect for human life yet wonders where all our misery comes from.
Off topic, I think Swan has a cool attitude. It’s like, “Here’s who I am, and here’s what I believe”. No pretending, no apologies. With that kind of attitude you can actually have a difference of opinion and remain friendly about it.
