a person is simply not his nature: a person has a(t least) one nature. but unless you can demonstrate (rather than assume) that a person cannot have two natures, then simply to identify personality with nature is to beg the question.

Indeed. As I’ve pointed out, every human being has two natures anyway: spiritual and material. The very definition of humans requires this dual-nature if one believes in the rational soul, and while this dual-nature is usually refered to as a single “human nature” for ease it remains fundamentally a dual-nature.

It is by the very fact that we have a dual-nature that we can even think in abstractions, for example, since abstraction is an inherently non-material function (it’s even seemingly anti-material in certain respects, since it contradicts material impressions). Yet it’s a fact of human existance that we operate on both material and spiritual levels, within a single person, without self-contradiction.

Christ simply adds another Nature to the mix, the Divine Nature. It’s no different for Him, however, that the Person has natures as spheres of operation, and can possess many spheres of operation.

This is an interesting discussion. It has been suggested that Jesus is God possessing the entirety of humanity. I am not sure what this means, but it doesn’t seem compatible with the suggestion that Jesus was a man. I thought this was a basic tenet of Christianity. Jesus is a man is an equational suggestion. Such that Jesus = a man, and consequently a man = Jesus. Suggesting that Jesus contained humanity seems far different from suggesting that Jesus is a man. Was Jesus a man? I don’t see how suggesting that God possessing the entirety of humanity is saying any more than that God is God. What doesn’t He possess?
