Hypothetical Dilemma: 7 Billion People will die if you don't shoot the baby in the head and eat its Bodily-Remains

7 Billion is the estimated number of People existing on the planet.

In the year 2015, first-contact is established with an alien race of unknown origins.

It is evident that these beings transcend our meagre technological advancements, and that it would be certain the human race would be wiped out within a mere second if war was to ensue.

A child is born.

The aliens leaders demand that we shoot the child in the head and eat its bodily-remains, otherwise they will wipe out the 7 billion inhabitants of the planet earth, putting an end to our miserable race.

The leaders of every country, in believing that the decision should not be the expression of any one person or individual, decide to hold a voting ballot, where you can vote for or against the death of the child.

Vote; and give the rational reasons why you voted for or against.

Maybe the aliens are just testing our character, to see if we can be trusted as trading partners in the dilithium crystal business. 😃

A test of Character is a possible reason. But the “why” is not important.

I just want to know what people would choose and what there reasoning would be for choosing.
 
I voted to accept extinction. I just do the right thing, the consequences are beyond my control.

I would try to save the 7 billion too. But it sounds like the aliens won’t allow that. I just do what I can.

If you want a technical answer, I consider my choice to be right because my morality is deontological not teleological. That is, the rightness or wrongness of an action is based on the action itself, not the consequences of the action. So not killing the baby is the right action, regardless of what happens as a result.
 
Potentially, that’s 7 Billion Martyrs for the Faith (even the atheists).
 
Actually, here’s what you do:

Baptize the child and explain that in Baptism, the child dies with Christ.

Give the child first Communion (hopefully, this is in an Eastern Rite where it is licit) and explain that by swallowing the Body and Blood of Christ, Christ consumes the child.

I thought that St Thomas had proved long ago that the ends cannot justify the means. Thus, I would vote that the baby would not be killed and allow the genocide of the human race.
 
Instead of me trying to answer such an absurd question and “rationalize” my answer, why don’t you rationalize why this was even put up for question? I’m actually shocked that people are entertaining this.:confused:

You are talking about Jesus and God did opposite of what people are voting here.
