As regards marriage, I’m not sure, but it keep in mind that at least the possibility of procreation is necessary for a valid marriage.

Not the possibility of procreation, but the possibility of a human sexual act; sterility is not an impediment to marriage, but perpetual impotence is.

Any Y chromosome makes one genetically male. Thus XY, XXY, XYY, etc. are all male combinations. At least, that’s what they taught me in college genetics.

Being a science class, it was not concerned with socialization. The only point made there was that, from the genetic point of view, there are only two sexes and the presence or lack of at least one Y chromosome is the determining factor between them.

In answer to the second question, yes. That’s why canon law doesn’t allow it. In fact, it used to be a “standard” question on an application for the seminary.

The example of “genetically male” from an earlier post is a way of making clear that a woman who has had an operation to make her appear male would not be eligible to seek ordination. It is not a way of saying that one must have 1 Y-chromosome (and therefore XXY would be “close enough”)

What a bazaar world we live in. Sometimes I wonder if there was a “Joan” that was allegedly Pope if this were the case. I don’t know the history well enough to know for sure but to accept what I’m told blindly. Of course I accept many things blindly as do most of us because nobody is an expert at everything. I believe that priests in Jewish Law were required to meet certain standards like no blemishes and of course must be male.

XXY is Klinfelters syndrome. It is a disorder that is exclusive to Males. I heard a geneticist say that any time there is an introduction of a Y chromosome the individual is considered Genetically a male.

I know for fact My diocese asks permanent deacon candidates if they are Gentically male. according to science an XXY or an XXXY would have to respond affirmative to being genetically a male.

How much of the body has to have a Y chromosome? I’ve spoken with the NCBC (National Catholic Bioethics Center) and even they couldn’t give me an answer.

I am a XXY/XY/XX mosiac, I have male, klinefelter’s male and female chromosomes, depending on the cell lines you examine. There is no way to tell which one is dominant.
