Hysterectomy- moral?

Like several other posters mentioned, I think you mean tubal ligation and not hysterectomy.

I had 4 c-sections. I was not following my faith when I was pregnant with my 4th child. It was recommend that I get a tubal ligation which I did. My tubes were tied during the 4th c-section. The recovery for the 4th child was tough. My doctor never said that having a 5th child could result in death but maybe that is because I had already agreed to the tubal ligation. The doctor had wanted me to stop after the third child.

It was a mortal sin. I now regret having it done and have confessed it. I would love to have it reversed but my husband feels it is too dangerous and my priest said that I was forgiven and having it reversed was between me, my husband and my doctor.

Since this is a concern of yours, maybe you need to use NFP to space out your children. I had 4 kids within 5 years so not much time to heal between pregnancies. I recommend talking to a priest.

A woman who is contraindicated for another pregnancy could certainly use NFP for the remainder of her child bearing years and not have another child.

+Hmmmm . . . NFP is never presented as 100% effective . . . the possibility that another child could be conceived is considerable . . . then both the mother with the serioiusly damaged and substantially scarred internal organs because of prior C-Sections damage and . . . an innocent baby . . . would both be tragically found in a situation where they were facing the grave probability of imminent death . . .

This removes NFP entirely . . . as a solution . . . from the mix of possible solutons . . . out of authentic genuine holy love for the wife and the baby . . .

I you aren’t able to get past the side effect of the surgery of not being able to have more children . . . and can’t prayerfully honestly wrap your mind around the fact that medical necessity could be a primary motive for such a surgery . . . and that there are good reasons we need doctors . . . (St. Luke was a doctor and a dear close friend and confidant of our Holy Mother Mary) . . . you need to seek out a priest and/or a bishop who is/are faithful to the Magesterium in particular . . . along with getting a possible second medical consultant’s opinion on the case . . . the soundest most trustworthy priest I know of available to you is . . . I think it is probably fine to have the hysterectomy. If the doctor thought this lady just needed birth control, wouldn’t he either tie her tubes or suggest that her husband get a vasectomy?

I’d be willing to bet that this lady’s uterus is problematic even if she never gets pregnant again.

1ke, I did not mean to say that I could not use it indefinitely. I meant to say that we could not use it for the purpose of never having children. Would that thought be wrong?

yes you can use NFP as long as the legitimate reason for avoiding pregnancy exists, even if that is until menopause.

My wife nearly had one the other day as she lost so much blood. They said if she continues to lose blood they will have to give her one.

Thankfully she is okay now.
