I absolve you...

Today,

I went to confession and the priest said “I absolve you in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit…” rather than “I absolve you of your sins in the name of…” The scrupulous demon within me is saying that the whole confession is invalid. I hope this is not true. It was a difficult and painful confession and I would hate to have to remember everything and redo the whole thing all over again. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Hey, TRUST our Lord! I suffered from being too scrupulous (and I know the devil was laughing) but with the Grace of God, I am almost overcoming it though it’s not as bad as it was a couple weeks ago or so.

Just believe that you are forgiven! TRUST TRUST TRUST!!!

Hey, thank you both very much. I feel much better now. There is still one thing bugging me, unrelated to confession, but I’ll post that as a seperate question since it is a different topic. I’m going to read that article by Akin. I’ve liked his stuff.
 
I would say his intent is more of importance than a forumla written by men. Who cares if he didn’t follow a prescribed formula to a tee. Men make mistakes. That is what we do. He made no mistake in absolving you. It sounds like he intended to absolve you.
 
I think that quite often, Catholics worry way too much about form when it is not necessary. When the priest used to give absolution in Latin, speaking very rapidly, did anyone listen closely enough to question the accuracy of the formula?
