I accepted the Precious Blood only. Is that bad?

Hello. Let me describe the situation that happened today at Mass.

I was altar serving today and we went up to get in our places at Mass like usual to recieve the Body and Blood.
Well, for the past couple of weeks, Father has been skipping the altar servers (Who’s spots are in the middle of the arc around the altar with the other EMHC). I don’t know what reason this serves. He skips the Altar servers to get to the rest of the EMHC. And he doesn’t even come back to us.

Well, as he put the ciborium back on the altar, the EMHC with the Blood approached me and offered me the blood. I paused for a second, recalling all the threads on here about how you can receive the full spiritual gifts in both species of wine and bread.

Well I accepted the blood and the body was not offered to me, so I left mass without the body.

I remember as I was being initiated into the Church(convert), Father told us that we should receive the bread first and then the Wine, not the Wine and then the bread.

Did I do something bad? Was this a sin?

You did nothing wrong and it is not a sin to receive under one species only.

Your prior posts seem to indicate a trend of thinking lots of things are sins or possible sins. So, please get some spiritual help from your pastor to help you better discern what is an is not a sin. Scrupulosity is a serious spiritual illness.

You’re totally right! I did deal with a lot of scrupulosity. I believe now, as I have grown in prayer and my relationship with Jesus. I can see now, that in the past, I was very questionable of my culpability of my sins. I do not deal with as much as I did with scrupulosity, but I do have some left, but I am still praying and hoping!

That was fine! I sometimes do this when, on special feasts, our parish bakes it’s own bread for Mass. I don’t feel right about having particles of the Host stuck to my teeth and remaining elsewhere in my mouth, so I recieve from the cup only.

It’s very thick and heavy, and can’t be swallowed without chewing… I don’t know the recipe.

As others above have told you, you can receive the Eucharist under either or both forms, Christ is fully Present under each form. And I never heard that you should receive the Blood first. Anyway it certainly would be no sin of any kind to do so. Sounds more like a point in etiquette like " don’t " talk with your mouth full. " And it would be no sin if you did, it is just that some people would consider you " uncultured " if you did.

About sin, some are mortal and some are venial. The best guide for you at this time is your Catechism, follow it. Remember, a mortal sin is a serious matter, you must know it is a serious matter, and you must give your complete consent to it** before** you have comitted such a grave sin. Or giving full concent to such an act after the fact. For example, you did something serious unconsciously and later you realized what you had done and that it was objectively serious and now you rejoice or take willful pleasure in what you did unconsciously. A good example of such things would be a dream that was evil if done while awake but not while asleep. To have such a dream is not a sin ( unless you did something beforehand which you knew would cause such a dream ), but to rejoice in it after waking would be a serious sin or a venial sin depending on the objective evil of the content of the dream.

What are serious sins? Murder, intent to murder, seriously wishing serious harm to someone, full consent to sexual acts, desires, thoughts not allowed to the unmarried, telling seriously damaging secrets about some else - whether true or not, missing Mass on Sundays and Holy Days without a serious reason, not fasting and abstaining when the Church calls you to do that, and the list goes on.

And remember, temptations are not sins. Some pleasure naturally accompanies temptations, that is why they are called temptations. The thing is to reject them as soon as you are aware of them and " toy " with them. That is nearly always deadly and always a venial sin at least. And avoid all " occasions of sin, " to willingly place oneself in a known occasion of serious sin is a serious sin itself.

Study you Catechism and try to understand what it says about sin and the differences between serious and venial sins. And keep the rules above in mind. And remember God doesn’t require us to be Moral Theologians. If we do the best we can to understand what the Church teaches, that is all He requires. Part of our faith is Trust in the mercy and reasonableness of God. So don’t be worrying about things you really don’t know much about. Remember God loves you, he realizes you are no genius Moral Theologian, just make a reasonable effort to understand. Linus2nd
