I accidentally left confession before being absolved

I went to confession and I thought the confession was over but when I left and did my penance I realized I left before the priest absolved me of my sins. Is the confession still valid? And if not, what do I do now? Do I have to confess each sin again? I know what I did was stupid, but it was a mistake.

He didn’t stop me. The reason why I left is because he did a long pause, so I thought he was finished. However, I really don’t remember him absolving me so I’m pretty sure he didn’t. What do I do now? Do I have to redo the whole confession or do I just go and say that the last confession wasn’t valid.

As it wasn’t with intent or malice I think just go back and explain what happened.

Confession ended now so he might not be there anymore but I’ll go back

Yes I did. He said he already absolved me so I’ll take his word for it, even though I don’t remember hearing him absolve me.

Glad you got this resolved so quickly! :+1:t4:

I would add, however, that I imagine if someone accidentally left early (after the Act of Contrition) Father might be allowed to give absolution as the person leaves.

I’m only 50 years old and I’m a complete space cadet now – can totally see myself wandering out of the confessional “early” when I’m older, and won’t be able to hear what Father’s saying anyway. 😯

I would think you are forgiven. You were confessing your sins and He was present. He heard you and knows whats in your heart. He is smiling and loves you. Go forward now.

Most likely you were absolved as you made your act of contrition. And anyway, as long as the priest absolved you, you are absolved. Still, I’m betting that you were absolved while you were making your act of contrition.
Yes I did. He said he already absolved me so I’ll take his word for it, even though I don’t remember hearing him absolve me.
Do you suffer from scruples? It almost sounds like you doubt the priest’s word.

If your pastor confirmed it, why are you posting here? I had to laugh at your scenario as it’s like going to a bar for a beer and paying for it, and then forgetting to drink it. May God forgive me for laughing?
