Go right ahead. It’s a true story, since my old pastor didn’t make up fibs. For some reason or other the pastor was always pretty scathing about alcohol. I suppose he’d counselled enough alcoholics, and in sermons sometimes commented that legal alcohol did as much damage as the illegal drugs combined. I don’t think he drank in his life.

I will pray for you pyro_alchemist. Definitely take the advice of others in this thread and seek out some help.

I never knew my maternal grandfather thanks to the bottle. He came back from WWII and picked up the bottle (probably due to what he experienced) and threw away his life. He became an abusive alcoholic, lost his family and his job, and spent many years in the gutter before he died an early death when my mom was 17. Dealing with that caused a lot of problems in my mom’s family that are still there, over 30 years after he died.

Threshold of Hope on EWTN had a great thing on a recovery group and spiritual warfare/support of addict group based, I beileve, out of Ireland. ewtn.com/audiovideo/index.asp#VOD is the streaming video page. I can’t seem to figure out how to make it work. I have family who struggle with the drink as well. I am united in prayer with all of you. Does anyone know about this group? They wear red bars on thier lappels. One need not be struggling with the demons of addiction to join. They abstain from drink in solidarity and support of those who do.
