Dumped a load of DD’s stuff in the bin this a.m. on the way to work. She’s been out of the nest for 4 years but this bag was hiding in the attic behind the Christmas stuff . . .

Good RIDDANCE!

…So far we’ve only gotten throught the boxes full of books …
I’m focussing my energy on sorting through and re-organizing books. I love books. Any idea how many books a homeschooling mom who also loves to read can collect over the years? We have bookshelves in most every room of our home, plus more books stored in other select pieces of furniture. Some rooms in my home look like small libraries. We’ve run out of bookshelf space, and I want to thin down our collection so we can more easily find our favorites and worthwhile reading.

I have a question about donating books. I have numerous religious books from some Protestant authors that contains some material contrary to the teachings of the Catholic church. I don’t want to spread Protestant teachings via thrift stores, but it seems wasteful to throw away books. What do you guys think? Should I donate or toss them out?

Oh me gosh! 👍 That is exactly what I have been doing this whole break. It does feel good. And I am organizing room by room and drawer by drawer… When I was a homeschooling Mom I could only do this in August; now that I work full time I can only do it on break. I have to say I enjoy it and get a little compulsive about it!! The rest of the year is too exhausting to get into it; now that I can it’s crazy!!! But I do have a lot of stuff ‘out’ that I need to sort through and ‘organize’-like mementos/treasures from when my older kids were babies. Not sure yet how to organize them yet.

My DD loves Goodwill. It’s her favorite store. We do have one near by that’s pretty upscale but she really loves the retro kind with their unique treasures.

I’d recycle them. 👍

DH and I both brought a ton of books into our marriage…we’ve got at least 4-5 bookshelves’ worth. 🤷

OH NO! I’m buying from Thrift Stores at this point, not giving! LOL

No really, I have been quite busy with Craigslist lately. Getting rid-off, not buying. 👍 (We’re too poor to just give away our nice stuff.)

I’ve been trying to put off going and hauling out and organizing the girls’ room today – by posting about poop on the Parenting Forum. 😛

I’ve discovered I need a 12 step program for my addiction to the following:

(1) Books. I could start my own library. It’s really bad.

(2) Hats, gloves, scarves… I have a LOT of coordinating sets. I love winter-wear… never had it in TX and now that I’m in the frozen tundra… well, I’ve gone a little crazy.

(3) Gift wrap, wired ribbon, and assorted greeting cards. Um… we will not discuss the number of rolls of Scotch double-sided tape I have now compiled from the various boxes in which I found them. I will never have to shop for tape EVER again. Maybe my heirs won’t either.

(4) Magazines. Ugh. God help me.

Recycle them if you can, toss them in the garbage or burn them if there isn’t a recycling program that will take them. (providing you live somewhere like me that is out in the sticks where burn barrells won’t draw the fire department to your house!).

Today we ran a circle of errands, from Kane County to Lake County to Cook County and back.

Today is Dead Sock Day!!!

ALL the laundry gets washed and dried. If:
  • It doesn’t have a match after looking under all the furniture and beds, IT’S GONE.
  • It is stretched out, IT’S GONE.
  • It has a hole, IT’S GONE.
And no, we are not saving them for rags, to make cute little puppets, or to give to the poor (as if the poor would have some of these socks). There will be plenty of odd socks next year.
Aslo, before Mass, we will take down the tree (but not the manager and certainly not the Kings).

Argh! Get it out! Get it out!

My husband arranged for pick up rather than drop off of our give aways. It sounds convenient, but we deceive ourselves. This morning, one of my children discovered one box with items I planned to give away.

“My favorite!”

“Your favorite? Really? You forgot you even had it and it’s trashed.”

:okpeople:Everyone, step away from the boxes and no one will get hurt.

My problem is that I think of the money I could make if I sold the stuff at a garage sale, and that’s not possible until spring. So stacks of stuff go off to the garage to clutter that up. I could really use the extra cash whenever I can get it.

What’s that sound I hear in the living room forest? Why, it’s the sound of the Christmas tree being “harvested” and put in the box for another year!:christmastree1:

I also hear the sound of all the girls’ clothes being tried on and checked to see if they fit. If not, OUT THEY GO TO GOODWILL AND ST. VEINCENT DE PAUL!!!

You won’t make money off dead socks or dead pens.

I took my** 7th car load **to Goodwill yesterday!!!

Yesterday I de-magazined the house. 🙂

I am still on a roll, I have more to do, but my vacation is coming to a close. I’ll have to settle for how much I’ve gotten done up to this point…

And you should pat yourself on the back for a job well done, as well as inspiring others to declutter their foolishness and mayhem.

237 LPS to the Goodwill today!! But DH had an anxiety attack and will go to the shop on Monday to buy back a few he thinks he can’t live without. That still leaves us with about 700 . . . baby steps. Baby steps. A friend will transfer them to CDs for $1.00 a piece if we buy the CDS . . . . We NEED to spend $700 transferring records we haven’t listened to since 1986.

Ooo! Good job. 👍

We’re still awaiting pick up and my efforts to de-clutter are cluttering up the house. My husband said today that we didn’t have to wait–we could drop some stuff off. When he arrange for that pick-up, I don’t think he realized how much I get rid of when I de-clutter.

I sorted through bookshelves and de-magazined a lot too. I moved onto various closets and storage spaces. Items which were neatly tucked away in storage a week ago now overflow from various boxes. I think we’ll make a trip or two to Goodwill before the truck arrives.

I decided to give away some items that I had saved to sell on an on-line auction because every time I see them, I feel guilty for not doing that yet. I can live without that money if it saves me the guilt.
