You make me laugh!!! . If you are such a Catholic why haunt an atheist thread? Any normal person can see you ( and others) have a interest in not believing in a god or gods. Good luck in your search!
A your the one that started this thread, so your reason does not apply. Do you also come here for the same reason as iddkav?

what is a wish?

your idea of love does not match anything I have ever read in a dictionary. please utilize something factual about the word, something from a dictionary You did not define it, you only gave an example of what you think it looks like from your perspective. please define what love is and where the term came from. thank you.

I thought so just wanted it to come from the horses mouth. in other words your your a ****.
Why do you say that? Do I have to have a reason to come here? What is your reason for coming to this forum?
Thanks for the insult anyway.

A cant lose this debate. Its impossible. Catholicism, like any other religion, has no evidence, its based on faith which is believeing without evidence. What makes me laugh is that you can argue absolutely anything without evidence, “the sky is blue because 6 million years ago a horse painted it blue, if you dont believe me you have no faith in my words”. Thats why i dont listen to atheist vs theist debates anymore. soooooo boring.

I have given my reasons several times through these four threads. If you care to, you can go look for them. I would be more inclined to answer you, but after ikkdav answered you, you may have called him a nasty name. I would like you to stop with the personal attacks, or go away. I could be wrong about your personal attack, I will wait to see what you meant by a****

Then I don’t have any understanding of love as your dictionary defines it. Telling you again what I think it is wont help. Just remember that when I talk about love, I mean what I mean, and you mean what the dictionary says (presumably)

But don’t take it personal I didn’t think a whole big thing would come out of it I was joking with him. Its hard to joke on a forum when you have to type. so sorry if you got offended I was trying to be funny:blush:

So it is clear that failing to believe (which a person can’t force on themselves - the evidence is sufficient to convince or it is not) is hell-worthy.
What? You haven’t demonstrated anything of the sort. When I asked you to back up this claim, you said you didn’t want to go into which offenses are damnable. Now you’re claiming it again. So I’ll ask you again – which passages connect the furnace of fire to failure to believe?
Ok, so why does your god need to hold such a large threat if he values free will?
There’s no connection between the level of punishment and the freedom to disobey.
Something of infinite value? If your god tosses the less than standard ones into a furnace of fire for all eternity, he can’t value it that much.
That does not follow. It might, if you could establish that God doesn’t try very hard to keep us out of hell.
‘Scripture’, as you call it, is full of contradictions which you must stretch long and hard to explain.
The universe, and scientific study of it is a much better bible.
Again, you are the one who insists on restricting the conversation to scripture.
Is Gehenna commonly known for being a furnace of fire where there will be a wailing and a gnashing of teeth?
It is where the Jews incinerate their refuse. “Furnace of fire” seems appropriate. And obviously someone consigned to such a place would wail and gnash their teeth.
But if he tosses even one soul into the eternal furnace, the value of the relationship is clearly far from infinite. Then why does he burn some of them?
You need to draw out this connection more clearly, because it doesn’t make sense to me. God values the relationship infinitely. The fact that humans freely choose to destroy the relationship, resulting in infinite punishment, does nothing to disprove that statement.
Why would you think that these concepts were understood hundreds of years ago by people who did not know that the earth revolved around the sun? (meaning the various authors/editors of the bible)
Because they were better at philosophy than we are.
It is possible that you have studied it more than I, so how can you still believe everything in the bible?
I have never said that I believe everything in the bible is literally true. In fact, I have said the opposite so many times my fingers are numb. You know that perfectly well.
Do you think the earth having 4 corners and resting on pillars is accurate?
Yes!

I’m just kidding, trying to get your heart rate up. Of course not.
Since some of the bible is so obviously not correct, it is fair to say that any claim of the bible may be true or may be false. Including the one about Jesus being the son of god.
I have no interest in going into this with you, and you have no interest in learning about it, so why bother with the Biblical literalism tangent?

Before Vat II, it was a mortal sin to eat meat knowingly and willingly on any Friday.

After Vat II, it wasn’t.

What happened to all those people in hell because they ate meat–prob. a lot of teenagers eating hamburgers and then getting killed in car accidents–did they get out?*

The sin was not eating meat, it was disobeying the church. The church is authorized to change required practices. Obviously this power has certain implicit and explicit limits.
What about all those unbaptized babies who went to hell before Vat II–and then after Vat II went to limbo.

I recommend a book to all of you Atheist and non Atheists, but I might get in trouble because the Church doesn’t quite agree.

It is called “The Spiritual Guide” by Michael Molinos.

ANYONE FOUND IN POSSESSION OF THIS BOOK WILL BE EXCOMMUNICATED.
PAPAL DECREE 1687

I don’t see anything wrong with what this man wrote at all, he just tells it how it is; from his personal experience. I think that it would probably keep people from going to Church because we are gods temple maybe that why he was throne in a dungeon. People were cruel and didn’t learn anything from Jesus back then or even today. Just like George Bush who claims to follow Christianity but in reality he couldn’t be further. Thats just my opinion.

These two words turn up “Sorry! The word kairos doesn’t occur in the KJV” and "
Sorry! The word chronos doesn’t occur in the KJV.

This is using the “Blue Letter Bible”.
blueletterbible.org/index.html

The word “kairos” turns up this in the Catholic encyclopedia.
Your search - kairos - did not match any documents.

The word “chronos” turns up this in the Catholic encyclopedia.

🤷 Okay !! What was your point? If I may ask??

The King James Bible is not written in Greek.

The GREEK language had two different words which are both translated as “time” in English. Those words have very different connotations. I haven’t studied this much, but it seemed relevant to the discussion, so I offered it in the hopes that someone would make an honest inquiry. Based on your track record, I didn’t really expect it from you, but I was hoping I was wrong. Sometimes it sucks to be right.

The very first hit on googling “chronos kairos” comes up with this link, which looks like an OK summary:
orthodoxytoday.org/articles5/ReardonChronos.php
“The reason that time in the sense of kairos cannot be measured is because it is always a now.”

This has very serious implications on the nature of eternity. That’s about all I can say on the matter for now

I have no interest in going into this with you, and you have no interest in learning about it, so why bother with the Biblical literalism tangent?
Because anything in the bible *might * be true, or might be false. There are many lies in it (such as the lie that the earth is resting on four pillars).
The natural world, and the scientific study of it is much more honest than the bible.
Why not discard the book of lies in favour of study of the universe ?(which, if your god created it, seems to be a better bible than the one I have found laughably inaccurate)

OK, let’s look at the alternate. If I do not ever force myself to believe in your three imaginary gods, what does the church teach you will happen to me?
(I wanted to pull this out separately, hope you don’t mind)

I’m confused. I have told you on a number of occasions what the Catholic church teaches on this matter. You have agreed that it is reasonable. So reasonable, in fact, that you made repeated unsupported accusations of dishonesty. So you know what the church’s teaching is, and you’re fine with hit. So what’s the point?

I was trying a different tack – since you’re so hung up on the simplistic literal interpretation, I wanted to stick with the straightforward reading of the text. This does not support your point about “forcing yourself to believe.”

That post was so great, I had to triple it up.

Sorry about that – some technical issues on my side. :o
