About 2 years ago (when i got out of high school), I started to cut back the amount of food that I ate at meals as a small sacrifice against impurity. This was hard at first, as I would usually eat until it was stuffed (as a usual high school guy 😀) Since it has become habit and I don’t really think much of it. The thing is, I am 6’3" and super skinny. I have had people tell me i need to gain weight lol. I am perfectly healthy, and not starving myself in any way, but I feel like I should be eating more as a guy that is not yet fully grown. Opinions?

If you have a serious worry talk to a doctor.

Aside from that, if you’re not getting hungry between meals I think a problem is unlikely.

Umm, isn’t being too temperate – being intemperate?

D

More what I’m asking is, by eating more than i usually do, am i opening the door to impurity? I have heard that fasting is an excellent weapon against impurity.

yes…temperance in one area affects inclination control in another.

Fasting is an excellent discipline.
As to your question, gluttony would open the door to impurity, but eating more than usual is not necessarily gluttony.
I would say, if you (not they but you) have a serious concern over your health, see a doctor. If not, thank them for caring and go on doing what you have been doing.

If they care, i appreciate it, but there’s just a lot of smart mouths on this forum lol!

I’m also 6’3" and used to be on the skinny side. Now I’m middle aged and gain weight too easily. My advice, if you are healthy, enjoy being skinny while you can. 😠

Yeah, I was the same way. Don’t worry, OP, by the time you hit your 30s, you’ll be wondering where the weight is coming from. Meantime, as long as you’re healthy, eat what you want.

D

That is because it helps you master your physical urges. It seems you have mastery, talk to your doc about your weight. Most of us are overweight, so, you might be the normal one!

Lift weights - to put on some extra weight -
I can’t stand eating till I’m stuffed -
I like just the right amounts 🤭

Only your physician can answer that question. You will never get any useful advice on this or any other medical matter from any one on any forum on the internet.

As for temperance and fasting, the Church has always taught that this is fine as long as you do not endanger your health, which is definitely not fine. People who cannot fast without endangering their health are released from any obligation to do so.

Is your partial fast an unnatural source of pride for you? You have been exercising this penance for a long time. Perhaps you should choose a new penance that may be more challenging. (and healthier)

Check your BMI and Body Fat Percentage.

I’m 6’ and weigh 160lbs. About 13% Body Fat. So, I’m lean but still within healthy parameters. Regardless, talk with your doctor if you’re concerned.

My opinion is for you to ask your doctor whether you need to eat more or are you okay as it is.

Some people are naturally thin just like some others are naturally heavier. The entire world likes to have an opinion on food and what people should eat, but in the end, the only opinion that matters is your doctor’s.
