I think perhaps what this thread does is more to call attention to semantics, rather than to play games with semantics. We VENERATE the saints, we WORSHIP God.
Don’t play games with theological vocabulary.

I see your point that many might just see the thread title and not read the thread. But even then, what conclusion should they draw? I think too many Protestants are too quick to say “Catholics believe such-and-such. I know because I heard a Catholic say it.” (And conversely, too many Catholics are too quick to say “Protestants believe such-and-such. I know because I heard a Protestant say it.”) That seems to me the greater lesson here.Semantics…always interesting. I understand the logic behind this thread but I cringed when I read this Thread title! haha Cringed because many Non-Catholics already have the perception that we “worship Mary” and may not even take the time to look at this thread and understand why you said what you said!
I agree with that Peter! Unfortunately, many people Catholics and Non alike fall into those two categories. I, for one, have done that many times in the past and still slip every once in a while. Thank you for your insight!I see your point that many might just see the thread title and not read the thread. But even then, what conclusion should they draw? I agree with many above posters that because of translations and the English language lacking words that fully describe the meaning of Latin, Hebrew, and Greek words, we do not realize the beauty and clear understanding of many Biblical passages.
tGette, thanks for the language lesson and for the attempt to lighten the mood here at CAF, but I urge you to be careful in your approach!
May God Bless you all!

All because of little ol’ me?Who wants to bet some extreme fundamentalist Protestant is going to see this thread title and make a 2000 word blog on how Catholics are the spawn of the devil?
CTA, my suggestion would be to worry less about Protestants and more about the “plank in your own eye”.Who wants to bet some extreme fundamentalist Protestant is going to see this thread title and make a 2000 word blog on how Catholics are the spawn of the devil?
Yes, good point. But I think the title is a bit provocative, and someone’s bound to take it the wrong way and mislead other people.CTA, my suggestion would be to worry less about Protestants and more about the “plank in your own eye”.
AbsolutelyI know the title is a joke, but did it ever occur to any of us that there could be some people who only read the title and believe it without reading any further… The fact is there are quite many people doing that already when they don’t investigate what it is that the Catholics believe, they only heard from others and spread it.
