Hi all,

I don’t know if I’m posting in the right topic area, but I have a concern. There’s a priest who comes to my college and he is a very practical, but regular priest. However, I have seen questionable pictures on his Facebook page in support of “gay pride” and a organization for homosexual men. Should I be concerned?

Thank you!!!

It is my understanding that other people can make posts to your Facebook page too. Perhaps someone else put them there? I also know of deeply religious people that deliberately attend gay-pride events, to pass out bibles. They pay the fee, rent a table and pass out free bibles. As long as they are respectful they are welcome.

Just throwing out a few other possibilities, however if this priest is publically and actively promoting that people can have sex outside of marriage then it needs to be addressed with your local Bishop. You would need to call your local diocese and ask where to make a report of a concern, probably the Vicar General. Hope this helps.
I second this

as a religious I strictly regulate the friends I keep on social networks. yet my mum called me one day to complain of a nude pix on my Facebook wall… I could not believe it was possible. do the priest some charity by striking up some discussion with him on the topic. it will help you understand his position. he might not even know because I did not know too until my mum called.

No, Monicad. This priest posted this picture as a cover. I know it was him. I was looking at his profile once and I had seen he liked that page and I believe I saw him in a picture with this group and friends with someone who has a “partner”
.I think there were a few more but that alarms me because it seems out of character to me compared to the other priests I know who know and live what the Church explicitly states from Christ Himself. He is involved but I doubt he would be trying to give witness, but support for these individuals and their lifestyle. I’m not saying they can’t be friends but when it seems like a priest is supporting their lifestyle that’s where the line is crossed… I barely see him around though. He is the priest present at my college l attend so he’s not always there.

Send him a private message asking why he has that. Ask him why he is supporting this. Make him think why. Ask him why not put a picture of a heterosexual couple, or a picture of God instead.

Without seeing the pictures, I really can’t comment. But…I do know some priests/catholics are of the mentality that want to show they can be friends with sinners. This way, sinners will not feel that they will be judge if they come to church. Kind of a reverse psychology. I am not saying I agree with it, but I think it is a tactic some use. Like another poster suggested, ask him what it is about. Only this priest can tell you his intentions.

Personally (and this is just an Angie thing), the pictures don’t concern me half as much as the fact that a priest is on face book. Yes, I have a negative opinion of it but that is another thread;)
