I am confused! (Nothing new there. But here is my question.)

Ok, Today at mass, Saturday, that is, we read the Last Judgement reading for the Gospel, but I was looking at USCCB site, etc. and that is not the reading for today. Can someone explain this to me. When I opened laudate for example, there was just the reading that included, “who is faithful in little, is also faithful in much, etc.”

Can someone explain this to me?

The readings for Nov 11 are for the mass of the day on Saturday.

If you were at a mass for Sunday you would have heard the readings found on Nov 12 on the USCCB website. I don’t know where you are or what time you attended mass.
 
It was morning mass. United States. It’s not a big deal . I was just curious

So, anyways, the Last Judgement reading was this morning. I’m still not clear so if some one wants to explain I would appreciate it.
 
I know it doesn’t count. 😛 But maybe I missed it when I looked on the USCCB site and did not see readings for satuday morning mass. I’ll look again.
 
Ok, I’d still like someone to explain to me why the Last Judgment reading got read this morning because I don’t see where that is supposed to be the reading.

Maybe I just dreamed this all up. Could someone pinch me, please.

Wait , have an idea that may be right. It’s the only idea I have at the moment . It’s a special reading for St. Martin of Tour’s Feast Day. IDK!!! 😱

OK, so where the other two readings the ones from Saturday?
 
idk .😡😡😡…wasn’t paything that close attention…I generally focus on the gospel, which is a good start for me.🤭

OK. Here’s my guess. Someone read the wrong readings.

It’s rare, and in my experience, it isn’t usually the priest who does it. But I have definitely seen it happen, even on Sundays – where I have to pay attention because I used to be in charge of choosing hymns that fit the spirit of the readings.

Now wake up and do something useful… like make me a cup of coffee. :coffee:

Is it possible to get year A,B, and C mixed up when opening up the lectionary to the right reading?

Honestly, it’s been about 30 years since I was a lector at mass – I have no idea how the readings are ordered in the lectionary, sorry.

Well, consider getting to hear the same gospel twice a blessing to you – you have more time to consider its meaning in your life – and move on.

Exactly!

The proper Gospel for St Martin is the Last Judgement. Matthew 25:31 ff

Alternately, the readings from the common of pastor or saints (generic) can be used.

It helps to have a Lectionary handy.

You will have to ask the priest who celebrated the mass. We really have no answer for you
 
Oh duh! Feast of St Martin, I even saw my Dutch friend post something on Facebook.

Yes if that was celebrated then the readings would have been different.
 
That was the Gospel for the Memmorial of Martin of Tours. It is optional for the priest to use the readings for the Saint of the Day. This reading makes sense for St Martin. He was a soldier who cut his tunic in half to give to a naked man. Then he had a visoin of Jesus saying that this is Martin who is a catechumen who gave me this robe". SO it really fits with the sheep and the goats saying “when did we see you naked?”
 
As a side note, you can often hear other reading if the priest offers a votive mass or celebrates an optional memorial. I always have to check the lectionary to see what Father has selected that day. Optional memorials aren’t too bad to anticipate, but when he chooses a votive mass I often have to make a quick study of the readings.
