How many of you saw and liked the movie? I really enjoyed it and I thought it portrayed an intresting and pretty good version of how Catholicism and Catholics affected the life of this young boy. I espically loved that he finds the truth about people and first trusts while listening in Church to “Ave Verum Corpus”.

Is this the same I Am David that is the book written by Anme Holm?

Michael

I stumbled upon it, looking to view something with a little culture for a change and I loved it!
An unexpected pleasure. I’ve been recommending it to anyone who likes classy movies instead of trashy movies.

Yes it is the movie adaption of Anne Holm’s book…it also marks the third movie in which Jim Caviezel is beaten or killed:
  1. Count of Monte Cristo
  2. The Passion of the Christ
  3. I am David
and the second time in which his death in those movies is attributed to a character played by Hristo Shopov…#'s 2. and 3.

Anyway, I absolutly loved the movie.

I did not know who authored the book but Jim Caviezal sure knows how to pick them. I have yet to see any work of his I did not like.
Most of his parts portray positive humanitarian characters with a lot of depth and they give you something to think about.

Yes, Michael, the movie is based on Holm’s book which was originally titled North to Freedom when published in the early 60’s.

I think Jim Caviezal is a great actor and always portrays his character wonderfully, he is one of my favorite actors. It’s just funny when I see his name associated with a film now I always think…hmmm, there is little chance of his character making it out of this film unscathed. 😛

Excellent movie!

I checked the book out from the library after seeing the movie; interestingly enough it was written for children (10 y/o on up or so). I picture young boys really being enthralled by this tale of survival and trust lost/trust regained. What I gathered is that who ever decided to make this book into a movie probably had this book as one of his favorites from childhood.

I really like how Paul Fieg directed this movie. The book revealed certain information from page 1 & 2 that the movie didn’t reveal until later. I preferred the movie approach & would recommend the movie first before your child reads the book because of the surprise element.

Here’s some more Passion of the Christ/I am David comparisons. The man who played the sailor who helped David played St. Peter, and the man who was the father of the family who befriended David was billed as “the whipping guard” in the Passion of the Christ.

Yeah, I heard on the DVD commentary that there are a total of 5 Passion of the Christ actors in I am David.

Here’s something else interesting regarding Jim Caveziel’s choice of films. There were some definite parallels between a Thin Red Line and I am David. In both movies there is life amidst the death and beauty amidst the horror. In both movies Jim Caveziel’s character said something like, “There is a different world out there; I have seen it” or “I’ve seen a different world” something like that to indicate that the horror isn’t all consuming.

I especially like the interaction between David & Johannes (Jim Caveziel’s character). Johannes states that you should try to survive at all costs. If your alive you can change things.

This movie, while it didn’t have the formula for success at the box office (thank goodness), it did have depth. And that in itself makes it worth viewing. I highly recommend it.

And did some of the music sound a little familiar to you? I didn’t get to see who wrote the background music.

Yeah, it had the same primitive surreal chant as the Passion did…but the music directors are not the same.

I put “no”- but I thought it was about the “David” movie with the kid who was a robot. Sorry! :o

why does that bald man keep killing Jim Cavezel?
Just Kidding.

I LOVED THAT MOVIE!!!

I saw the movie several months back and loved it.

One nice thing about where I live is that the local video store sells off their excess inventory and movies that no longer rent well. As soon as I Am David went into the ‘for sale’ bin I scoffed it up, so now I have it as part of my collection.

With bad weather expected here today/tonight I think I’ll hunker down and pop it in.

I just loved this movie and while I was watching it I thought many of teh characters looked familiar- especially the guard guy. I kept looking at the boat guy but was unsure - how cool.

And how about the seen where they sing the Ave Maria - how cool was that???

We watched this film for our Social Psychology class and boy, was it great! It’s a clever movie that leaves you thinking about stuff. We were all touched by the depth of the message that this film brought across. It’s one film I’d surely want to watch all over again. I RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE!:bounce:
