I am feeling creeped out

Hi Everyone,

I recently joined some acting classes by a not for profit organization because I though it would be a good hobby to get me out of work stress. And I must admit I rather enjoy it and it is a better activity than staying home alone. Sometimes, the scene get a bit too racy for me but I try to keep my boundaries and make sure I only do ‘clean’ scenes.

Well, a bunch of them go grab a bite to eat after and for the first time I joined them because I though it would be a good social outlet. Well… needless to say I was horrified.

At first they were talking about things I am not up on. Only to be expected since it is my first time out. Then they were talking about people who were not there. Some I knew some I didn’t. It was not an involved conversation but rather one sentence here one sentence there and everyone more or less just said what they felt like and did not care to respond to other’s comments. Well… then it appeared the conversation turned to gossip about this one guy ‘D’. I wasn’t exactly sure because I wasn’t exactly sure what they were saying. Well… It turns out that this one girl ‘S’ was going to a aparty and bringing him and it would be his ‘first time at this type of party’ and they were mocking ‘D’ about that.

One man kept saying ‘I think we are scaring CM off’. Well he got that right. Finally I just said ‘Just tell me straight up what this party is about’. So ‘S’ told me she likes to go to fetish parties were people beat each other with wips and chains and some people are set on fire . She said there is a membership and there are parties organized in different cities and she likes to go to them

Then all the others said they do not go to them but yet do not see anything wrong about talking about it as if it is OK if it is someone’s cup of tea

I am absolutely floored. I think I will continue acting classes but I will NEVER go to a restaurant with these people again. I am actually sadened that such a society exist. I am also very sadened because from what I say of ‘D’, he is a really nice guy and for him to want to try this ???

I really wanted to be a witness to God’s love but ‘S’ actually said ‘Church goers tend to not come back to our acting classes because too much stuff offends them’ as if she just had no desire to change her mind or hear the word of God.

I just really needed to get that out

CM, your post made me recall an extremely creepy experience from this Fall. Currently I reside at a hotel in Miami Beach (long-term rental of one room, not more expensive than other typical rental solutions), it’s a good decent and safe place by any standards. However, recently, they organized some sort of “event” for which they closed off most of the large hotel lobby. They put up large no-see-through curtains, but for 2 or 3 days, some really creepy-looking figures wearing strange costumes were coming and going at our hotel, and attending their event, whatever that event was, in the closed-off lobby behind the curtains. Now I really wonder whether this was some sort of fetishist get-together. I was very disgusted by what was going on and I complained to the hotel management. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one complaining.

Back when I was in college we went to a few science fiction conventions. They were supposed to be harmless get togethers. But what was described above sounds much like what happens at one of those. Lots of drinking. Lots of revealing and strange outfits. A great deal of behavior and sin. Even on the level of the parties that you commented above that ‘D’ would be interested in going to. I know from experience that if my kids ever ask to go to a science fiction convention that I will say no.

Sorry, this may be slightly off topic; its creepy and costumy but not especially sexual.

One time I live-trapped a meddling 'possum and tried to let him go in a huge forested public park. I had no idea if that was legal or not. I parked the truck; I was the only one there and the place seemed safe. I started to pull out the live trap and all of a sudden, Norse gods and medieval wizards charged out of the woods, screaming and howling and violently destroying invisible monsters, calling out how many points they got and which spells they used. My 'possum-relocation just happened to coincide with a local role-playing convention. It was EPIC. I drove Mr. 'Possum to another park.

There are clubs for this sort of thing in pretty much every major metro area.

A woman living in a small town community near me was just arrested for “operating a disorderly house” and it was revealed she was a dominatrix.

The entertainment industry is filled with the entire spectrum of people, many of whom are very eccentric. You’ll find everyone from Catholics to transsexuals. If you want to be in the industry, you’ll have to deal with all types. Be respectful about it, but also set your boundaries.
