I think you have to be wary of being more Catholic than the Pope. If someone can’t accept the Catechism as authentic teaching of the Church then there’s a major problem.

It is not the Mosaic covenant that is referred to, but the Abrahamic covenant–the covenant of faith–first made to the Jews then extended to include the Gentiles also. If the Jews are faithful (which means accepting the Messiah who has come) then they partake of the covenant which the Gentiles can now also do the same way. The Epistles to the Romans and Galatians demonstrate this well.

Likewise, a Jew in good faith who desires to believe all God has revealed and do all He has commanded, but is mistaken as to these two things, may also be saved.

This is just my personal opinion but…I honestly don’t know whether non Christians will be saved, because ultimately only God knows what is in their hearts, and mine. But you know I’m not going to take my own salvation for granted either, because I can see that even as a Catholic I reject Christ daily in my sins.

While it’s true that Jews, non Christians, etc. may be technically rejecting Christ by believing in the faith they were born and raised in, I have seen more faith in many non Christians, than I have in myself.

For example, the Jews of the Holocaust, who went to their deaths singing praises to God, and Gandhi who was a symbol of peace for His people…they may not be aware of it, but I believe Christ has the power to work through them as well, and so I am not going to make it my place to judge them.

What I really do hope is that others can see Christ working through me as well, and that I can be a sign of faith in the Church…that said, I still have a long ways to go.

I am grateful that it is not my job to read the hearts and souls of people. My job is love and to show forth God’s love and His Church as best as I can. I will gladly give the judgement of our souls to God and trust in His Divine Mercy.
