But surely, even if a parent can “deny or allow” a sacrament, as the OP puts it, no one (even a parent) can or should compel a person who can make his or her own decisions to undergo a sacrament.

If the OP’s concerns have now been allayed and he is eager to be baptized at the next opportunity, that doesn’t matter so much, but it still bothers me that a parent and a church would be intent on baptizing a competent person (though not technically an adult) who might not be willing.

While this is a valid argument, in some instances, that isn’t the case. I speak only from my experience in that I encountered MANY teens who admitted they were not really wanting to be confirmed but that their parents were making them do it. For these parents, it is/was their obligation and what they felt was the right decision in bringing up their children in the Catholic faith. Right or wrong, it is what it is. Some of these youth COULD tell their parents they weren’t ready. Some wouldn’t dare. A former DRE said in the case of a parent refusing to truly allow their child (an 8th grader ) decide, you pray that the graces and gifts are still received and will one day be embraced.

Again, just my opinion, the Catholic faith is not one to take lighty or just to have your kids receive the sacraments just to "make sure it gets done " or so one can "get married in the Catholic Church one day " (yes those are responses I got over the years) and was one of the reasons I was in favor of kids being confirmed in high school (11th grade) so they could really form their own thoughts and understand the faith better than they could in 8th grade.

Now in the case of the OP, yes they need to follow what their parents wish at this time.

Interesting list. Surprised to see “?” regarding valid Baptism for Christian and Missionary Alliance, and Mennonite Churches. Did not know that.
