I cannot believe I’m admitting this, but I am in tears. Actually crying.
We have two weeks to move, we’re $3000 short of being able to move and we cannot find a place. AND we owe several thousand dollars to our current landlord. He is a kind man who has been very patient and is not to blame for this situation.
If God does not save us, then my family will be homeless.
Can you speak to Section 8 housing. In the absolutely worst case scenario, I think if you were in danger of homelessness, they would probably bump you to the top of the housing list. Now, the apartments may not be the most wonderful, but I don´t think you would need to be homeless.
Also, can you speak to the United Way, bright and early, tomorrow, explain your situation, ask if there are any resources available which could help you.
Goodwill, in the area I used to live…(the office part, not the store) would do an assessment and refer people to the appropriate community resources.
Do you qualify for medical, utility assistance, food…etc.
There are actually bunches of programs.
For housing…Section 8.
There is St. Vincent de Paul which someone helps out. They are through the Catholic Church.
For food, there are Food Stamps…or SNAP…I believe that goes by state.
Utilities often offer budget billing so one doesn´t get slammed in the winter, and the give away things to reduce one’s usage. Once, I paid a one-time winter fee of $200, in the 1980s, and then budgeted it, only paid $70/month.
Do you qualify for any other kinds of assistance? If you don´t know…go to Goodwill…see if you can get an assessment and referral, because they should know your community resources.
For food, there are also food banks…

There are soup kitchens.
Once, I used a government cheese program. Every little bit helps.
For tax time, I once had a group of volunteers do my taxes, for free.
You seem to be operating at a deficit.
Once that happened to me though I was working full time. I babysat, made a few extra hundred dollars which helped me enough to make it up over the hump.
I clipped coupons…carpooled with a friend. I’d babysit for her, and she´d take me places in her car.
Another place I lived, a neighbor and I shared a taxi…went on double coupon days and she’d buy one, and I’d buy another. It helped.
Some places…believe maybe the Salvation Army…helps with budgeting, as do some banks.
acf.hhs.gov/programs/ofa/programs/tan Here’s another program…don´t know if you qualify.
Speak to churches, and explain your situation, ask for help. There is also Catholic Social Services.
Goodwill can sometimes give folks a voucher for, say, clothing. Once, they gave me a used wheelchair!
