‘Proper’ Catholics should absolutely refrain from coming forward to receive the Eucharist if they are not properly disposed.Would ‘proper’ Catholics who had not been to Confession/ had eaten before Mass just have to sit still as well or is it just us poor Non/Almost-Catholics that aren’t allowed?
It’s rather embarassing to be scheduled as a lector, commit what you believe to be a mortal sin the previous afternoon, and confession ends up not being available before Mass because the priest is running late. It felt like all eyes were on me when I stayed in my seat during communion, but better to be embarassed than further offend our Lord. Shame can be an effective instructor
