I am rather confused about the Apparition in Fatima - 1917

Personally, I just have mixed feelings about it and lack a strong attraction to it in my spirituality. Who knows? Maybe God will show me otherwise one of these days?

I do not see any connection between the BVM and the Divine Mercy apparition - nor do I see any reason to give her ‘credit’ on any level for anything about it.

Anyone with any knowledge on the Divine Mercy knows Mary appeared to Sister Faustina also.

Of course it’s not mentioned what exactly the 20 year old had done, but all this talk of who is in heaven and who is not is a bit eerie.

Let me clarify some of my previous statements:

While I don’t believe that by simply praying the rosary will make up for your sins (nothing we do can make up for our sins, that’s why we have God’s grace), I do believe that it is an excellent penance for the sins we’ve comitted.

Make sense? I hope so.

I think you may be confussiing eternal punishment for our sins with temporal punishment. Only Jesus can take away our eternal punishment but we must deal with the temporal punishment and the rosary is anb excellent means of doing so.

=Conservative;3522848]I believe in the book, “Our Lady Came to Fatima”, it explained somewhat simply. Perhaps, what sins we have are measured not just by our age, but by mentality and intent - particularly intent and whether or not we’ve expiated or shown sorrow for them. But I agree with you - if a youngster at that age and that time of relative innocence needed to say lots of rosaries, I sure hope they say at least a year’s worth of Gregorian Masses for my soul! (God help me) The 20-year-old we do not know - and let’s face it, it’s between the soul and God.

Our Lady didn’t say anything about WHY Francisco had to pray “many rosaries”, did she? I’d always thought that the rosaries were part of his mission. It never occured to me that he was praying for his own salvation, but have always believed that he was to say them for the salvation of other souls & the needs of other people.

I got scared out of my skin once I read a post here about how few get to Heaven based on a saint’s writings. Then, in another post reading so many who read the “Diary” of St. Faustina - about Our Lord’s Mercy - even at the moment of death. So, that sure gives us all pause to wonder about these young souls you asked about.

May God help and protect us; Our Lady intercede for us; Our Lord have Mercy on us!

If you look at the world around us, you’ll realize that there may well be few in heaven. Not to worry, though…just say the rosary.

Remember, “Holy Mary, Mother of God pray for us sinners…**now & at the hour of our death.” **If She’s there, praying for us, we’ve got it made!!

PS. I believe that Mary said that the girl from the village who died would be in purgatory until the end of the world, not the end of time. Has anyone else heard it this way??

My understanding of Purgatory is that it is where our attachment to sin is “burned” out of us. Perhaps the girl will be in Purgatory for so long because she’s simply unwilling to let go of some things and would rather suffer than “lose herself.”

Just musing. After all, isn’t pretty clear that Heaven and Hell are places that we choose, via freewill, based on whether we will surrender ourselves to God or not? I once had a priest explain to me during a time that I was struggling with the concept of Hell, that Hell is where those who refuse to accept and take part in God’s Love end up, and those sorts of people would be miserable in Heaven anyway. Not exactly those words, but the basic thought.

Any thoughts?

One thing to keep in mind is that concepts like time do not apply in Heaven, Hell or Purgatory. To put it in terms of physics, they are outside of the time-space continuum.

I don’t know if she is totally 100% incorrupt because I have read about this in the past but at least overwhelmingly mostly incorrupt.

I’m not vouching for the website i link too, it is interesting that it makes some assertion that the bell towers were at the time, not being manned by anyone and they still rung. I have books on this and I might get them out: I had never heard this before.

Perhaps you’re right. The Church approves of Fatima, so that’s good enough for me. I just feel that sometimes, devotees of Fatima get too wrapped up in “Fatima” and not the message of Fatima: the Gospel.
