I cannot believe that the Pope is coming to Australia and this is how we greet him. As an Australian, I am so deeply ashamed and very very embarrassed.
These people are, well, what can I say…idiots?

Remember St Paul’s words? Neither Greek nor Jew in the Lord. Ethnicity does not tie us to people, but our actions.

These people are clearly not for the Lord, but for the Devil.

M’am I’m NOT gonna judge *all *Aussies, by these handful of wackos, and I don’t think anyone else will either. Don’t lose any sleep over it.

Has any other countries had protests like this to welcome our Holy and wonderful Pope?
I just feel so bad for him. We are such a godless country and it reflects on us badly, that’s all.
Would they treat any other religious leader like this?

Jules, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. I have a feeling the Pope has heard these arguments before. Just pray for a conversion of heart for these people- God is capable of great things!

Jules, dear, these are 20 or so nuts. The odds are good the Holy Father will never even notice them.

Yes, when PJII came to Chicago in 1979, 29 years ago, there were nuts. Do you ever see them mentioned? No. You see the pretty little children in Polish dress, the pretty little children in Mexican dress, photos of PJII blessing the crowds, Mass at Five Holy Martyrs, Mass at Soldier Field , the mayor naming a portion of street after JPII.

You Aussies will have a bigger, better reception for the Holy Father I know!🙂

Yes, dear, the crazies were here in DC as well. (No cracks, please, about the usual crazies here in Washington. 😉 ) Very loud. All of maybe 15 of them at both the White House and outside the stadium where the papal mass was held. And thousands of faithful worshipers happily ignoring their noise. It’s just part of the show . . . don’t let it worry you. Enjoy the blessed experience – I sure did!!!

From the article:
T-shirts ranged from things like ‘Pope is wrong, use a condom’ …Contraception was a common theme on most shirts with many people wearing condoms pinned to their clothes.
Hmm. :hmmm: These demonstrators may not understand how contraception like condoms are suppose to work. Sticking pins through condoms? Wearing them on their clothes? Condoms won’t always prevent pregnancy or disease, especially if they have holes stuck through them or if they are worn as clothing accessories. 😉

Idiots? why?
I dont see the need for such language.
They are 20 people (very small number) protesting in the democratic way… wearing t-shirts with a slogan etc… They use their democratic right and freedom of speech. Are we perhaps frustrated because the anti-papal secularists are often much more active in defending what they hold as true, than we are?

They have a right to their oppinion. We can only hope that the Church in Australia will take the opportunity to actually preach the word these days… also about condoms. Here is a golden opportunity… Now how will the Church respond?

In Denmark where I live many people think the pope should be put “on trial for encouraging the spread of HIV”… We know this is ballony and it lacks all common sense. HOWEVER… there is a big “however”… the church in Denmark is acting like a little mouse… it does not preach the Word… it does not stand firm in itself and it has inner turmoil.

As the Word of the Lord says: How will they know if nobody preaches? I am sorry… but I think in generel the traditional churches have failed and still fail in preaching … especially from roof tops… 🤷

Sorry Grace, but “Pope go homo” is just offensive and idiotic! A more respectful and appropriate way of voicing their opinion would have been something like “Respect the rights of homosexuals” or something along those lines. The individuals doing the protesting may be very smart, but their choice to be obnoxious is idiotic and counter-productive to their movement, actually.

Hmm…I think its lucky he isn’t coming to Oregon…IT’d be ten time worse IMO

I’ve always been rather fond of Australia…ever since I was a kid and I did a school assignment on it.

No they would not. Because Catholic bashing is the last acceptable form of bigotry in multicultural Australia.

well the article says about 20 people turned out for this “protest” so I would not get all choked up, and I certainly hope no one judges me by the behavior of some Americans, so you should not beat yourself up about your countrymen. both our countries have an extensive tolerance for idiots

:rotfl: I was thinking the EXACT same thing!!

“We’re saying here today, these T-shirts are not annoying, or offensive, they actually say important things about condom use,” she said.

And that important thing is that the only way you should use a condom is pinned to your shirt as a fashion accessory.

As for the “pope go homo” line, gee…that’s classy. Thank God the Holy Father is a big enough man to handle this sort of nonsense. I imagine his response will be to pray for the poor souls who just don’t get it. Guess we ought to be doing the same, huh?:o

I remember the ones at the stadium! They were so loud! Bullhorns, ladders and everything!

One of my friends and I were looking at the signs where they were listing Church teachings that are “unbiblical”. We laughed when we saw the Eucharist listed and went, “Um, This is My Body?!”

People tried to corner me rudely, but I said I didn’t want their papers. I ended up saying it in Italian (first thing that came to mind) and they left me alone because I wasn’t speaking English. One person was actually polite, so I just smiled and said, “No thanks, I’m Catholic.” He was nice about it. I had to have respect for him because even though he’s a bit misguided, he was doing it out of a sincere love for Jesus, not to be loud and w/e like the others.

They didn’t matter to me at the end of the day. What mattered was that I saw the Pope and I was honored to serve at the Mass he celebrated.

If you won’t judge us Americans for all our wackos, we won’t judge Aussies for your wackos. 👍

I am rolling over here. That was just tooooooo totally hilariously truthful.

God bless you for giving me something to laugh at.
Forever in Christ,
Cherie
