Hi everyone, I just came back to the church after an absensce (5-6 years ish). I got married outside of the church but am happily married and hoping to get remarried in the catholic church.
Anyway, with the legalization of gay marriage and all the things that are happening in the world, I am living everyday petrified of what will come. I am constantly seeing speculation about end times and the near future being the second coming and I am terrified. Not because I do not want to meet our Lord, but for the people that I love and yes for my own soul.
I sometimes think about the other end times prophecies that did not come to pass, but there is something different this time, I feel like. I don’t know. I want to bring my husband to the church and save him, because I just love him so much I can’t bear the thought of him being cast out. He was never religious so I feel like this might be difficult. We have a daughter on the way and I am starting to wonder if I should not be bringing new life into this world (not by use of birth control, I do not believe in that, but I actually had to get fertility treatment to have her and now I am wondering if it is a mistake and I should have left it alone). I just need some reassurance, guidence maybe some love and prayers. I wake up sometimes scared of what is going to happen and i feel like this fear is taking over me. I am a nanny for 3 children and I feel like they aren’t getting the attention they need because I am just constantly worrying. Please help!! God bless you all.

Matthew 24:36.
“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”

Catholics, to my knowledge, aren’t supposed to buy into the apocalyptic fear mongering that is all too common place in some strands of evangelical Protestantism. We’re supposed to live our life, as Christlike as possible and you can’t do that if you’re always looking over your shoulder for the end to come.

For what its worth, if I’ll pray for you. I know people who fear the end and I know how stressful that can be for people.

Do not fear. A Christian cannot fight the good fight if he is swallowed up by fear. 🙂

If you are pregnant then you hormones are probably making a few adjustments. Of course you should bring children into the world… God depends on you and others because gays can not by natural means, bring fruit into His garden. Don’t worry about End Times. The End times will occur according to God’s plan, not ours. Just do and be faithful to the teachings of Jesus and the Church. None of us can do more. Even the Pope has his difficult days. Just do what you are doing; show joy, love, understanding, faith and everything will be as it should be. His will be done. Not ours. Be at peace.

I have been thru that before when I was much younger. I still worry about the future as I suppose all christian people do. But I have learned over the years to TRUST Our Lord and His Holy Mother. He will give us the Grace to deal with whatever comes our way as He has me many times. Pray for your loved ones and trust God. I will keep you in my prayers and hopefully you will find much support here on this forum. We’re all in this together. God Bless, Memaw

We aren’t given a spirit of fear, but of love. Look around you at the profound brokenness that brought us to this point, and you will see a world in need of compassion and healing.

I’m not old enough to remember the Roe v Wade decision (also not a majority opinion, but one imposed by the courts), I was just a little kid when that happened, but look at all the broken lives and hearts that resulted. Our response has to be one of open arms and healing.

I have a feeling that the results of gay marriage ruling will take the same trajectory as the abortion ruling–certain people will be flush with triumph for awhile, chaos and pain will follow, lots of fights, etc.

But in the end, truth will win out–it may take many years–and society will see that these gender issues aren’t as cut and dried as they would have us think. There will be lots of broken lives and broken hearts.

And in the end, it will be the faith based ministries that will come forward with real help and healing. Be part of the healing, not the anger.

As another poster already stated, your hormones are probably upsetting you. They tend to rage during pregnancy in some people, some not, but they are certainly active.

We are living in the last days, that is true. However, those last days could go on for thousands of years. We have no idea when time will end and Christ will establish his kingdom here on earth.

Frankly, I look forward to the end of time and hope it happens during my lifetime. (I very much doubt it will, though.) I look forward to Christ’s Second Coming and to the resurrection of the dead.

If it’s any consolation, Christ himself said there will be no marriage in heaven: “When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven” (Mark 12:25). This does not mean that two people can’t enjoy a close relationship in heaven. I’m sure you and your husband will have a close relationship in heaven.

All you can do is pray for your husband and hope he will accept Our Lord. I am sure Our Lord will hear your prayers.

Try to relax. After your husband becomes a father, his life and perspective will change.

The past is done, you can’t change it.

The future hadn’t arrived yet, so what can you do about it.

Live in the present because that is all you can change.

Spot on, @xNoOnex. Catholics are told to live their lives as if every day is their last and to trust in the mercy of God. I see you describe yourself as “lapsed”. I pray for you as others had/have/are prayed/praying for me that you rejoin Christ at the altar soon. Took decades of praying for me (in my case) but the Holy Spirit guided me slowly and surely back to full communion with Christ’s church. God Bless and protect you. 👍

Trust in God, OP. We all tend to fret too much and get caught up in our imaginings. God is mercy and love and He knows what is in our hearts (and others) without us telling Him. Pray in faith and live in the footsteps of Christ. God’s Peace be with you! 👍

I hate to be the one to point this out, but…before you bring your husband into the fold, you kinda’ need to tend to some of your own issues.
  1. You were married outside the Church–that means, to the Church, you’re not married, and living in sin.
  2. You used fertility treatments–I don’t believe those are approved by the Church; certainly some are absolutely not (e.g.–in vitro).
  3. While the Church doesn’t approve of in vitro, it absolutely disapproves, unequivically, of abortion. And if you’re pregnant…and debating whether or not to bring the child to birht…that sounds like you’re contemplating abortion–or, to be more blunt, murdering your child. That’s an absolute no-go, period. Wipe that thought clear from your head, and do NOT give it a second thought.
  4. Everybody is apprehensive of the future, because no one knows what’s in store. Live boldly in faith. Thank the Lord for today. Tomorrow is guaranteed to no one.
Finally, as a caveat–i’m just some anonymous poster on a message board; please take up the issues I mentioned (probably missed a few as well), with your priest/confessor.

fwiw.

God bless…

Following up briefly:

*Church Teaching

In 1987 the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith issued a document known as Donum Vitae (“The Gift of Life”), which addressed the morality of many modern fertility procedures. The document did not judge the use of technology to overcome infertility as wrong in itself. It concluded that some methods are moral, while others—because they do violence to the dignity of the human person and the institution of marriage—are immoral. Donum Vitae reaffirmed an obligation to protect all human life when married couples use various technologies to try to have children. Without questioning the motives of those using these techniques, Donum Vitae pointed out that people can do harm to themselves and others even as they try to do what is good, that is, overcome infertility. The fundamental principle which the Church used to assess the morality of various means of overcoming infertility was a rather simple one, even if its application is sometimes difficult.

Donum Vitae teaches that if a given medical intervention helps or assists the marriage act to achieve pregnancy, it may be considered moral; if the intervention replaces the marriage act in order to engender life, it is not moral.

In Vitro Fertilization

One reproductive technology which the Church has clearly and unequivocally judged to be immoral is in vitro fertilization or IVF. Unfortunately, most Catholics are not aware of the Church’s teaching, do not know that IVF is immoral, and some have used it in attempting to have children. If a couple is unaware that the procedure is immoral, they are not subjectively guilty of sin. Children conceived through this procedure are children of God and are loved by their parents, as they should be. Like all children, regardless of the circumstances of their conception and birth, they should be loved, cherished and cared for.*

Point being, that’s authoritative (not me).

But please also note, that the Church will certainly welcome your new child with open and loving arms, the above notwithstanding.

The point I’m making is simply to take the time to meet with your confessor-priest, so that he can work with you in getting right with the Church.

Then you can focus on your husband (or perhaps, preferably, he’ll work with you).

FWIW, I do believe the end times are beginning. But, this doesn’t really upset me. I pray frequently for Jesus to return. He knows my heart, & I’m confident I’ll be with Him eventually. That’s all that matters to me. 🙂

I suggest you read books about early Church history and see that this is nothing new. 2,000 years later and the Church is still here!

I understand how you feel, but now know that God and his Church have always survived. 👍

**Hi ellam25,

It looks to me like you have gotten some very good advice, but wanted to say a couple of things.**

First of all, we are NOT leading up to the Second Coming like all the Protestant posters on Youtube would have us believe, What we ARE heading into is a time of great chastisement that will culminate in the “Triumph of the Immaculate Heart.” God is allowing all of this to happen to shake peoples lives up in such a way that they won’t be able to ignore Him any longer. All of the electronic marvels that our generation has used to distance themselves from the more important life issues will not be there any longer to use and fast food will be a thing of the past. In fact, food may be a thing of the past, however, the Lord is allowing this so that He can draw His children closer to HIm.

The bad things about this is that it will be a time of great danger that will not only be happening to us but to all the nations in the world, at the same time. We must keep in mind, though, that the Lord is doing this to get our attention so we don’t die in our sins. Keeping all of this in mind, going to confession regulary and making things right with God as soon as possible is probably the best thing for all of us to do.

As to being “prepared,”.No One Is Going To Be Able to Prepare.for what is ahead. It will be a day to day walk that keeps us in constant communication with God and asking what we need to do next. THEN, we do the next right thing that comes to us and THEN we encourage those around us, because people are going to be losing it! If we concentrate on helping others, it will help us to deal with the fear that all of us will be experiencing…

We will all begin this time on a level playing field, no one will be PREPARED. God wants us to come to Him constantly and if we do that, we have a good chance of making it. If we don’t do it,…well, we will pay a price, in fact for some it may be lethal… It will be up to us and our personal walk with God every single day until Our Lady of the Immaculate Heart brings Victory at the last moment.

I know it sounds scary and I guess it is, but as you pointed out the world has gotten to be pretty bad. The Lord is giving this time to us as a means by which we can turn to Him and be welcomed into His presence. whether we stay here or go on to be with Him, it will be the same thing.

***So ellam25, just try to be the best Catholic that you can be and you will be fine! Remember that its your life that your husband will look at! Teach him by example–yours! ***

Hi, I took meds for fertility treatment which I was assured by a priest was fine as long as we were not doing anything artifically (artifical insimnation or IVF, anything that involves pregnancy being created outside of the body). I will explain it, I do not ovulate on my own and all these medicines did was help my body produce the right hormanes TO ovulate.

I never ever considered aborting my child. I do not believe in abortion. However, I do have some guilt about bringing her into the world we live in, hence I wonder if I should have let my body just not ovulate. I didn’t think anything should be done to prevent it, I was just reflecting my feelings of uncertainty about my decisions.

I also already have stated that I wish to get married in the Catholic church. Thank you and God bless, Ella.

Hello,

A Priest I listened to in a Homily once said, “Don’t worry about the end times, Prepare yourself every day for your end time”…

Pray and lead by example the best you can every day to the ones you love. I would seek out a Holy Priest. God Bless You and all of you will be Prayed for.

God Bless You

Don’t worry about bringing new life into this world. Just raise her well. She just might be the next great Saint of this new century.

This not in relation to your post, but I often wonder how many saints, Doctors, artists or great painters have been aborted in the past 40 years.

Ask Jesus and the BVM in prayer what to do.

Numerous apparitions have mentioned the best ARK of safety is the BVM and the rosary.

Remember God is a god of miracles.

There was a church in Nagasaki near the epicenter of the nuclear blast.

In he rectory the priests were unharmed and lived long natural lives. Their explanation was they were living the messages of Fatima and praying a daily rosary.

That says it all. I’ve had verification from a ww2 veteran who walked inside the rectory. He told me the glass window pains weren’t even broken.

He thought I thought he was crazy, but I had actually been praying for verification of this miracle.
