I went to a Baptist church on Sunday and had a great time with my husband and kids. They wewre all so welcoming and I had the best time ever! I loved bible study. the singing. and just everything. We are thinking of going there from now on. Is that a sin?? As long as we stilllove God and make Jesus a central figure in our life…I can’t imagine going to churhc on sundays, bible studys once a week, and living to serve others and still going to Hell…any resposes??

I was raised a Baptist and as a result because it was all I knew I became an agnostic, almost an athiest. The Roman Catholic church , Jesus’s church led me to Gods gift of faith and back to God.

The Baptist and indeed many protestants provide a lot of emotional stimulation. They rely heavily on charismatic pastors, they have lively singing, they do not provide the Eucharist, dont believe in Jesus prescence at the mass in the form of his body and blood and do not provide either the intellectual foundation for belief or a direct line back to Peter the RCC provides.

I am surprised if you do not understand what is wrong with what you are doing you do not understand the church’s teachings and you cannot have the benefits of the only true mass with Christs body and blood. I dont understand anyone who would give that up for an emotional stimulus from yelling and singing?

Welcome to CAF, Nicole.

Whether or not you leave the Church Christ founded for a denomination that He didn’t established depends upon how important truth is to you - not just your feelings. If you love Jesus, then you should want to live in the fullness that He brings to you through His Church and not enter into a denomination is bereft of that fullness.

I hope you find CAF helpful in forming you as a faithful Catholic.

nicole, i dont think anyone on earth, even the pope or the catholic church would know who is going to heaven who is going to hell. no one has the right to have such claim. that’s God’s business.

do you believe God loves u and to a extent that He sent Jesus, His son to die for you on the cross that your sin is cleansed?

God loves u. i dont really think God cares where you worship Him. But He does of course want you to know Him more and better.

i am thinking seriously about the meaning of Eucharist. that’s why i am very interested in the catholic teaching.

Just last week you were “tormented day and night” about not being able to receive Communion. If you leave the Catholic church, and attend a Baptist church, you will never again receive Communion.

This is something to really pray about. Do you really want to leave the Church that was founded by Christ himself?

Joel Osteen whom I like has been severly criticized, mostly by baptists, and a lot based upon an appearance on Larry King where he said he did not know who was going to heaven. The RCC takes the same position, we dont pretend we are God, that is his province.

Since I discovered this forum I have been dismayed by the amount of protestants who are here, not because they want to learn about catholisim but because they believe that we are evil, we are heritics etc.

I would not go to a Baptist forum and pretend to tell them how to be led to salvation but there does not appear to be a protestant alive not willing to tell everyone on this forum the proper way to salvation- you do realize we do not believe in the same things protestants do? We share our belief in Jesus as Gods son, that he died for our sins and was resurrected on the 3rd day (as Paul says w/out the resurection there is no christanity) but the public profession of faith, immersion baptism, the body and blood in the eucharist etc are beliefs we do not share in common.

I strongly urge you to read cs lewis or ck chesterton English writers and intellectuals (and catholics) of the early 1900’s. They provided me an intellectual basis for faith to go along with the church’s teachings. In fact the catholic church I believe has the strongest intellectual basis to support the ressurection that there is if you go to the website it is wonderful.

i like the different voices here, not just catholics, but protestants, muslims… and i really appreciate the openness of this forum, to let people say what they think, even though some are contradict to the catholic teaching.

and i got a lot of insights by reading the discussions between the catholics and the protestants or even other religions.

i like the discussions here. and i thank all the catholics and protestants who contribute here.

yes, i think i have to study some books seriously. will look for the books you recommend. instead, i have a very difficult book from a very wise catholic friend, and keeping untouched because i dont have time to do any serious indepth research at this moment. but will definitely do some this summer.

I was born again in a Baptist Church, but eventually settled in the Methodist Church. I drifted away for several years and eventually converted to Catholicism.

Only in the Catholic Church did I find that Christianity made sense.

The Baptist Church is full of good people who love Jesus, but it does not contain the fullness of truth.

I spent four decades there. Have the T-shirt. It’s not what you think. Great people to be sure. They will love you to pieces, no doubt about it. The problem is, they are not contiguous with the historical Church. They are 30 miles wide and a half inch deep.

I have a zillion friends and relatives in that world. I’ll take where I am now to be honest.

Get the first marriage annulled, live like brother and sister until then, then get your marriage blessed, and stay Catholic! Not necessarily the easiest route and maybe not the answer you want to hear, but probably the best way to go.

Great advice. Go through the annullment process, they are very charitable and take their job seriously.

Nicole, get on your knees and thank God He is showing you what salvation is all about. Martin Luther was as devout a priest as you’ll ever find, but he said that no matter what he did, he always saw Jesus as a Judge, rather than a Savior. Then he was reading Romans 3 and 4 and he saw that God says we are justified (made right with Him) by “FAITH APART FROM ANY WORKS OF THE LAW” (Catholics wish these verses weren’t in the Bible. They have to do really funny dances around them to distract you away from the beautiful truth of salvation by grace.)

Well, once Luther saw that, he believed and was saved and knew what the cross was all about. That’s what God wants you to experience. By the way, Luther wasn’t perfect, but don’t let Catholics’ hatred of him fool you!

There are many good Baptist churches. You just have to be careful to avoid ones that preach more about sin than they do about God’s grace for victory over sin!

Of course martin Luther died a friendless and bitter man. He was an egotist who believed man had to do something to effect his salvation. Catholics dont have a hatred of martin Luther but we tell the full story, protestants cannot tell the full story because it calls into question your beliefs.

why are you here?

I have no need to go to a Baptist forum, I know all about the Baptist church and instead want to participate with those of my faith. I suppose if I believed I could change the minds of Baptist I might go to a baptist forum but I believe I would only irritate them and cause more strife within the christian faith. Since I found this forum my greatest dissapointment is the amount of protestants who have come here to either convert or attack.

while you, like my Baptist minister Uncle are nice enough to be around, I dont want my kids marrying one and do wish at times I had a delete protestant poster button on my computor.

Let me ask you, what makes you think Luther was saved and went to Heaven? How do you know? He is responsible for dividing the Body of Christ. He is responsible for the 33 thousand plus divisions in the Body of Christ. I can’t say either way. Only God can know for sure. Are you aware of some of the beliefs that Luther held in regards to morality? I would venture to say you don’t! And you sound like you could use some careful study on what sin is. I’m not sure you really understand sin. Lastly, you need to realize that Catholics gave the bible to the world. Luther admitted this much. Will you? There is nothing in the bible that is contrary to the Catholic Faith and there is nothing in the Catholic Faith that is contrary to the bible. It is a Catholic book!

BTW luther did not leave the cathloic church, the cc kick him out and most of his bellives went with him and i have never heard a cathloics say any thing bad about the ex cathloic priest

Oh dear…are you kidding in the bolded portion? Do you know that the one, undivided Church that is Holy and Apostolic canonized the Bible? So it makes no sense to say Catholics “wish these verses weren’t in the Bible”. Back when the entire Church was “Catholic” (universal, complete, lacking nothing), before any splintering off into “Catholic”, “Orthodox”, “Protestant” or anything like that, we came together and canonized the Bible. And now you want to tell us how we feel about it because we reject some interpretations that Luther came up with ~1,000 years after the fact? Unbelievable.

If God wants us to experience the feeling of being “saved” without works, why all the emphasis on faith AND works, as in James 2:18-20? This is the false dichotomy that Protestants always try to set up to “prove” what they think the Catholic Church teaches wrong (conveniently forgetting or remaining ignorant of what the Church does teach, which is NOT salvation by works). It is not “faith” vs. “works”…faith AND works! “Show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works”! The two work in concert with one another; having one without the other or in substitution for the other is not sufficient. We are told to do more than that.
