A parish history would be an ideal addition (St Sophia’s is the successor to St Pius X, I believe), as well as an exterior and some interior photos.

You want to send a link to the website to the webmaster of the online directory that’s hosted on ByzCath. They’re in process of adding the UGCC parishes in the US to that directory.

Sorry, I was half-asleep and not thinking clearly when I wrote that. Pokrova in Houston is the former St Pius X.
I’m going to add pictures of inside and outside in a church tour. I need to send the outside pictures to the diocesan and eparchial webmasters once I get them up, so I’ll send them to ByzCath at the same time. Thank you for the suggestion.

Maybe sending them to the eparchial webmaster will inspire someone there to add photos to the rather bare-bones parish directory that St Nicholas now hosts. It would be nice.

I talked to the webmaster the other day when I realized the RSS feed was almost a year old. The same guy has to do all the online and computer work for The New Star and the eparchy and they’ve kept him really busy with the eparchy’s jubilee. He’s eager to get back to work on the webpage. He’s the one who asked for the outside picture first. 🙂

Curried pierogies! Yummy!

I wonder if the local Syro-Malabar or Syro-Malankara churches offer homemade food. I’d buy it. I almost stopped at the Indian grocery store yesterday since we’re out of samosas. Time restrictions kept me from doing so, but you might have given me the push I need to make time for it today! 😛

This Sunday we’re going to celebrate Father’s birthday and the anniversary of his ordination. I predict many rounds of Mnohaya Lita. 😃 And we’re having Liturgy on Saturday at 10AM this week for the Feast of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos. I mention it in case anyone wants to visit without interrupting their normal Sunday schedule.

I fixed the page I broke on the website. Now I need to get things better organized without breaking more stuff! I’m still open to any suggestions for what people would like to see there.

I think there’s Malankara Orthodox Church in Plano off Ave K?

I called the Syro-Malabar church to ask if they have any public fundraisers, festivals, food for sale or anything like that. He was very suspicious of me, wanted to know who I was calling with and why I wanted to know. I explained that I’m a local Catholic, told him where I live and go to church. I said that our church offers these things, so I want to see if theirs does so that I can support their efforts, too. He continued to give me the third degree about who I was and still wouldn’t answer me. Then he warmly welcomed me to come visit. :confused: They must not get inquiries very often.

I talked to Father Pavlo and he’s scheduling the next pirogie party now. I want you to try the Jalapeño and Cheese because I want to see what sauce you use on that! 😃

I think it’s a pretty small place and probably a tight-knit community. I’d guess they don’t get too many inquiries. Probably just easier to stop by.

You’ll have to let me know how that tastes.

The Indian churches in Garland are large and active communities. The one I called has 400-500 families. I’ve been thinking about it more and thought it might be because my phone number doesn’t show up in caller ID. That might have made him suspicious. 🤷

I’ll have to introduce myself in person. 🙂

It’s my experience that most of the Malabarese and Malankara communities are not yet attuned to the notion of food festivals. Additionally, like many of the OC and OO Churches, they are more ethnic worship communities than the EC and EO are presently - simply because they are close to a century behind us in assimilation and acculturation to the US. They have not yet been beset by converts and, for the most part, their liturgical celebrations are not served in English. So, as yet, they are unaccustomed to ‘Western’ (non-native, non-ethnic) interest in them.
