I’m an introvert and I think you have it backwards. It has always seemed to me that extroversion is a mental disorder. I mean really, what makes someone stand there and jack their jaw all day about absolutely nothing and then get upset when I don’t want to listen to it.
There have already been several inaccurate statements about introverts in this thread. Introverts are around 30% of the population, not 50%. Introverts have no difficulty with work or promoting in the workforce and usually do better than extroverts as they don’t run off at the mouth all day making themselves look like idiots.
Introversion cannot be an obsession. Being introverted is never a sin. It does not mean you hate people. Not yet mentioned but still true: it doesn’t mean you are shy.
While a relatively small portion of the population, a marked majority of those with high IQ are introverts. We are also more represented among professions seen as being intellectual such as professors, scientists, etc.
Introverts and extroverts DO have difficulty communicating with one another and misconceptions and misinterpretations abound. It is not because introverts are somehow defective, it is because there is a difference in communication style. However, the onus is on you to learn how to deal with their rampant emotionalism if you want them to stop running around with their feelings hurt all the time, because they are unlikely to ever make the effort. The difference in psychological types and the nuances associated with dealing with each one is too detailed a topic for an extrovert.
Lastly, there is nothing wrong with you and you can’t change the fact that you are an introvert. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. I love being an introvert.
