Is this sinful? Should I confess it? I felt like I knew what I was saying in my dream but in real life I never use those words or have those thoughts. I feel guilty…should I?
I had a dream about three years ago. I was a staunch militant atheist at the time but this persona was starting to crack. In the dream I was alone and outside. I could hear the voice of God trying to speak to me real close in my ear. I don’t know what he was trying to say. In the dream I yelled at the top of my lungs “this is f***ing stupid! God isn’t real”. I had actually yelled this in real life. I woke up and cried.
I was received into the Church this Easter. Sometimes bad dreams can lead to good things.
I already am a practicing Catholic, and normally don’t have these feelings, which is why it was unsettling. I am wondering if this offended God especially since it felt somewhat willful in the dream, although it really is hard to tell.
You can’t sin in your dreams. Sin requires you to be awake and to willfully choose something. Doesn’t matter how willful your dream felt, it impossible to sin in your dreams.
You absolutely do NOT have to confess it. Put it out of your mind. It could have been anything from a prompting of the Evil One, to an overactive imagination, to fatigue, to the effect of certain medicine or even food, to “just one of those things that happen”.
