I bought stuff from Monastery Icons!

I have recently bought several items that will help me in devotion to Christ from Monastery Icons for over 175 dollars on the total.

I just read that Monastery Icons is Hindu and supports pagan practices!

The reason I trusted Monastery Icons so much is because my parish church has bought several pictures from here and also it looked very Christians.

I have also heard of demonic cursing by them

After I found these out, I called Monastery Icons 3 times. Two said they have never heard of demonic or occultist cursing or presence within them.

And then I asked the third one who they are run by, either a Monastery or a business. And they couldn’t answer, she said she would get back to me.

I really do not want to burn these objects because they are so gorgeous and cheat too… Could I just rather get them blessed by a priest so they can dedicated unto Our Lord?

Can I still buy from Monastery Icons as long as I get them blessed?

I don’t really have an authoritative opinion for you, however I think you were rather innocent at the time, which I think dismisses you from any guilt.

I once bought a rosary from an occult gift shop and gave it to people in AA and they used it for good.

I think God has a way of using all sorts of things that start out bad and use them for good.

I don’t think you should worry about it.

It’s up to you, but I probably wouldn’t purchase from them again but on the same token i wouldn’t necessarily throw them away either, If you decide to get them blessed especially.

Maybe someone else here will be better able to assist you.

It’s kind of like thinking you shouldn’t shop at the grocery store because they sell condoms. Their religious affiliation may be Hindu so you should probably buy your sacramentals in the future from a more catholic organization.

Don’t kick yourself though.

how do you know if the source that claims monastery icons are demonic is accurate? I don’t know what you mean by monastery icons. were these icons made in the orthodox style and tradition? I would first check and or confirm the source which says they are evil.

This is what I heard you say, but maybe not what you intended to say.

I bought Icons from an Hindu monestary which are Hindu Icons but look very much like christian Icons.

But I heard that my catholic church had also bought Icons there at this same Hindu Monestary.

I also heard that these Icons I bought may be cursed and demonic.

Should I have them blessed so I can keep them because they were so cheap.

And can I buy more? Or what do I have to do? Get rid of them?

I am a little familiar with Monastery Icons (and its parent company the Sacred Arts Foundation), and it is true that it is run by a widely heretical sect which tries to combine Christianity and Eastern mysticism, specifically Yoga and the ancient Hindu scriptures.

I doubt that the icons are cursed (but you should certainly get any icon blessed), but you really should avoid buying religious artifacts from this group in the future, which I know is very hard, because they have absolutely beautiful icons and seem to cater to a Catholic audience.

Based on your other posts, you seem predisposed to severe scrupulosity and are easily excitable.

So, take a deep breath and calm down. You didn’t do anything wrong. No you do not have cursed, demonic objects-- you are frankly being silly in that regard.

Nothing on either Monastery Icons or the Sacred Art Foundation say anything about Hinduism or other Eastern philosophies or religions. The information is only about icons of the Christian tradition.

No, you do not need to burn these icons. Yes, have them blessed.

If you do not feel comfortable patronizing this company in the future, then don’t. But, really, demonic cursed icons? Please get a grip on yourself.

It was late a night when I read the thread and did not catch that this was from a Hindu monastery. I generally would not want to buy any sacrimentals unless it made by Catholic or in the case of icons, Orthodox. I agree with 1Ke and while your parish might have bought Icons from this group but I would consider it unwise. In buying things from this group, you are supporting them and their heresy even if the icons were not cursed as you have read. I am not sure if you can return them but maybe you can try and just use this a a learning experience.

We buy from grocery stores, which helps them stay open to sell condoms and other immoral items.

I don’t directly place funds into Hindu.org. Nor do good Catholics place funds into a condom organization. But that place offers great Christian merchandise, cheap too.

I have called a Catholic parish in Toledo, OH where the company is located, and they said it was more than safe to buy there.

Will I get them blessed before taking them out of the package, most certainly I will!
When we buy religious items from a secular business(Which in my opinion, is more worse than Hindus), its fine as long as we get them blessed!
When it’s not, secular businesses than give some of their funds to contraception means or abortion funding…and who is indirectly funding it? Catholics.

However, Hindus would be much less culpable to fund those kinds of procedures.

To include hindu and other pagan elements in an icon is very clearly an abuse. This kind of thing is why we see “icons” of merlin and islamic figures. There is very little difference here than using rosaries in vodun and other such blasphemy.

Just have them blessed by a Catholic priest, that wil remove any pagan or demonic influences…if there are any to begin with.

just to clarify, I was speaking about sacrimentals and in particular icons which do have particular meaning and specific rules if made properly. I was not referring to and trying to split hairs over such things such as buying girl scout cookies, paying taxes etc. Icons are not just nice art work but meant to convey spiritual truths and meaning and meant to aid us in prayer. Yes, many secular companies make religious items and sell them but it seems curious that a Hindu organization is going into the icon making business to sell the Christians and I am sure doing so to raise money for themselves. You have the right to do what you feel comfortable with but I would be uncomfortable in buying an icon from them.
