I am so happy for you! Your video made me all emotional 😃 I am glad things are moving forward for you!

God bless you on your journey! Is it not exciting to believe that you may become the Spouse of Christ?🙂

I’m writing to them, also.Hopefully they accept older vocations- I’ll be 42 in November! Good luck in your discernment, I’ll be praying for you. Please pray for me also.God bless!

carmelitegirl93- Thank you for sharing your video(s) about your phone conversation with the Carmelite Nuns in Brooklyn, By the way, I love and appreciate the pictures of Our Lady in the background.

I must admit I have watched several of your wonderful video’s before on YouTube (before CAF)

When you talked to the Carmelite Nuns did they talk very softly? Almost like a whisper?

Is your family, Catholic? If not, what do they think of you becoming a Catholic? What do they think of you considering the life of Carmel?

What order are you discerning in Carmel?

St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (St. Edith Stein) is a fine example of a young woman who converted to Catholicism.

Prayer for Vocations

Lord, Jesus Christ, You are the Saviour of the world. Please manifest in Your church, the Spirit whom You also abundantly bestowed on Your apostles. Call many to the priesthood and religious life. May zeal for Your glory and for the salvation of the world inflame those You have chosen. May they be saints in Your likeness. May Your Holy Spirit strengthen them. May they be priests and religious according to Your own Heart. Amen

Vocation Prayer for Discernment

God, I know you love me and have great plans for me. But sometimes I am overwhelmed by the thought of my future. Show me how to walk forward one day at a time.

May I take heart while I search openly, learn about all the choices, listen to others for advice, and pay attention to my own feelings. By doing these things, may I hear your call to a lifestyle and a career that will let me love as only I can, and let me serve others with the special gifts that you have given me. Amen.

Oh yes very softly i wasent thinking of it but yes like a whisper.

Is your family, Catholic? If not, what do they think of you becoming a Catholic?

Oh No my family is not Catholic but my Mom and my little sister is going to be Catholic with me.
well what do they think my brothers this am not going to be one they think am going to be a mommy, my twin sister thinks that i will some what but now she like i dont think you are going to be one, OH and my Mom she just hates that i want to be a Nun shes just like why do you want to go and do that to your self but i keep saying its not me Gods calling me to himself.

What do they think of you considering the life of Carmel?

Well as we all know the Carmelites are all about paryer and MY Mom dose not like that she saids if i want to be a Nun then i should be one thats out in the world, but i think i want to pray for the world thats why i want to be a Carmelite you know.

What order are you discerning in Carmel?
what order? am sorry am so stupid can you say that again.

Oh, i am so happy for you! 😃 You’re videos are wonderful! I will be praying for you! =)

😃 Awesome. Ive been thinking about writing to the Franciscan Sisters in NY. Ive also considered the Carmelites. Very interesting Order. Id like to visit ANY group of Nuns or sisters but I dont know when I can get the money to travel. Not sure if there are any Orders in my state. But anyhoos. …Im very happy for you! Best to you and yours.

carmelitegirl93-When I spoke to the Carmelite Nuns (over the phone and in person) they spoke so softly like a whisper. The only time they were “loud” is when they talked after supper; talking and laughing with such joy for Our Lord.

Perhaps, you’ll lead your family by example. You’re going to RCIA to become Catholic and you are considering on becoming a Nun.

Yes, Carmelite is centered on Praying…Some of my family, friends, and even Church family don’t understand why I would consider the cloistered instead they want me to consider active orders. A religious sister once told me that, “You can explain cloistered orders until your blue in the face and people still won’t understand. If a person understands about praying than they will understand cloister orders.”

No, don’t ever say that you’re stupid. You are a “Child of God.”

Believe me, I’ve been Catholic basically all my life and I’ll admit there is A LOT I don’t know or understand about being Catholic…It doesn’t hurt to ask questions, get advice, and so forth (I think that’s why I’m on CAF)

I’m sorry I’m not really sure if I said it correct if it’s Carmelite order or Carmelite branch? I’m not sure if that’s the correct terms. Hmm, perhaps “CarmeliteGirl25” will know.

For an example, I didn’t know there was a difference between the Discalced Carmelite Nuns-OCD, and O.Carm

Here are some abbreviations of different religious orders:

Keep in mind what St. Teresa of Avila said,

Let nothing disturb you,
Let nothing frighten you,
All things are passing away:
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things.
Whoever has God lacks nothing;
God alone suffices.

I will continue to pray for you and for all discering a vocation

LOL, I don’t know everything! 😊 You are so sweet.

But, to answer your question, the Brooklyn Carmelites belong to the Order of Discalced Carmelites (OCD) begun by St. Teresa of Avila.

There is a difference, especially during the reform, between the OCD and O.Carm. Both follow the rule of St. Albert of Jerusalem, but the OCD is more strict in their observance of poverty. The reason they are called ‘Discalced Carmelites’ (which means ‘shoeless’ Carmelites) is because they wore simple rope sandals whereas the O.Carms. (Carmelites of the Ancient Observance) wore leather shoes. Nowadays, it is a bit different. The Discalced Carmelites are still more strict, but they are not the only cloistered order of Carmelites. I know of two cloistered O.Carm. nun groups (one in Hudson, WI and the other in Wahpeton, ND).

To learn more about the specific groups in the Carmelite spirituality:

God bless!
