In addition, they also use the commentary of their pastor in making interpretations. No one does this alone.Something I heard recently on the Bible alone bit, was an offshoot to the ‘where does it say bible alone?’ question.
I heard someone say to respond by asking to see the person’s bible and you will probably luck out with commentary and further notes in the bible used. Thus in reality they are not using the Bible alone, they are using the Bible and commentary / notes of the translator.
Then you can walk down the variance path of one source of translation authority in the CC vs many sources depending on the Bible used and commentary trusted.
I’ve already been pushed into a swimming pool by an Episcopalian friend of mine and he spoke “the words” as I went under…does that make me baptized in water?I certainly agree about being spiritually dangerous - especially given such a good example with Jesus and John the Baptist.
Only for myself, I guess I’m not comfortable circumscribing a line and declaring those outside of it in serious error and declaring that they are wrong - for I freely admit that I’m in serious error and I must hold to Christ’s love and forgiveness as my only source of salvation.
I will say, I’ve learned from Publisher to learn how to welcome the stranger, and for that I’m grateful.
He’s still is wrong about baptism though… So he better keep well away from my pastor as he can be quick to splash water from the baptism font.![]()

We can always consider that I’m “invincibly ignorant” and/or I’m covered under the “baptism of desire” clause.
Actually we cant I dont know if your just joking. You would be able to claim it if by no fault of your own you where not aware of Christ teachings or baptism. But you do understand the difference(s) and cannot claim “invincible ignorance”
I guess I like to “live on the edge”…“I know Whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him against that day.”…“spiritually dangerous”…I’m in very Good Hands…if that’s “spiritually dangerous” I can live with that kind of “danger”…it’s not what I have done, butr what He has done for me…and that is a debt I can never hope to pay.![]()
Friend,Well then…all I can say is thank God for His astounding grace and mercy…and thank God it will be Him I stand before at the Last Day…“for I know in Whom I have believed”.
Thank you friend…I appreciate very much your words.Friend,
I pray his Grace, Love and Mercy are with you always.

I heard a debate once between Tim Staples and Steve Gregg, and I find it curious that Mr. Gregg would claim that Tim Staples doesn’t know his bible well. During the debate Tim was quoting Scripture right and left. Clearly, Tim knows his bible. So I called the radio show and asked him
“if your an expert how do you get a different answer than Tim staples or Scott Hahn”
His response is
“sadly they don’t know thier bible very well”
Unless I’ve got the wrong date, the show being referred to here was on March 29, 2013. I’ve been checking to see if the show is available, but so far it isn’t. This is the archive for March. Can you post the link? I think I and othes would like to listen in to…thanks.
It was a day or 2 before I pistes on catholic answersUnless I’ve got the wrong date, the show being referred to here was on March 29, 2013. I’ve been checking to see if the show is available, but so far it isn’t. This is the archive for March.
Perhaps the poster who was on the show could verify the date.

Ok: Here’s an mp3 clip of your call. Click to listen, or right-click to save.It was a day or 2 before I pistes on catholic answers
Yes I think he was fair with me.Ok: Here’s an mp3 clip of your call. Click to listen, or right-click to save.
If this was your call, it seemed to me that Gregg was fair with you, despite cutting you off from time to time. In fact, you leave his broadcast on quite cordial terms.

I don’t recall Calvin and Luther ever arguing about anything with each other.Yes I think he was fair with me.
I just think its silly to say his version of Christianity is right because he can interpate the bible better. That’s rediculous Luther and Calvin both great Protestant scholars claimed they where both right because the could interpate the bible better and they argued who is right. I used to go to bible study fellowship when I was a Protestant and all they did was argue
Do the guy a favor. Keep calling and ask questions. Politely, of course. You may increase his listenership and his ratings.I was listiening to Protestant radio (Anabaptsit radio)
And this guy Steve Gregg the host went off on all you need is your bible and don’t become a member of any church
This concept really bothers me because I have friends that are like this and they have come up with some really really strange ideas on thier own.
So I called the radio show and asked him
“if your an expert how do you get a different answer than Tim staples or Scott Hahn”
His response is
“sadly they don’t know thier bible very well”
Then I responded
“then how do you come up with a different answer than John Calvin or Martin Luther”
All this was said in a calm manner but my John Calvin and Martin Luther response was not put on air and he went off on some tangent back to how one should stay away from institutional churches
The terms “Roman church” and “joining Rome” are highly offensive. What Staples joined was the Catholic Church.I don’t recall Calvin and Luther ever arguing about anything with each other.
Keep in mind, during the 16th century, everyone argued with everyone, including those attached to the Roman church. One need only search out the squabbles between the different orders of monks.
Edited to add: Steve Gregg makes some good points to you, while other points were not so good. For instance, the claim that Tim Staples did not “know” his Bible previous to becoming Roman Catholic is simply untrue. As much as I may disagree with Mr. Staples, it certainly is the case he has quite a lot of Scripture memorized, and had this before joining Rome.

“Within the Catholic Church there are a number of individual churches, sometimes called rites. One of these is the Roman rite or Roman church. It includes most of the Catholics in the Western world. A Roman Catholic is a Catholic who is a member of the Roman rite.”The terms “Roman church” and “joining Rome” are highly offensive. What Staples joined was the Catholic Church.
Nice dodge.“Within the Catholic Church there are a number of individual churches, sometimes called rites. One of these is the Roman rite or Roman church. It includes most of the Catholics in the Western world. A Roman Catholic is a Catholic who is a member of the Roman rite.”
