I can no longer in good conscience identify as Catholic. It's been fun

For example I used to believe, without evidence, that evolution always tended ‘upwards’ towards the development of intelligent beings like humans. There was no evidence for this. I no longer believe it.
What about survival of the fittest?

Many species have survived for tens of millions of years longer than humans without anything approaching human intelligence. Intelligence of the human kind has evolved only in hominoid lines and probably only once. There is as yet nothing to indicate that it makes us more likely to survive in the long run. ‘Fittest’ in the case of life in an undersea volcanic vent has nothing to do with evolving intelligence.

There is a dog called Chaser who can understand 1000 different English words. There is a parakeet Alex who can speak 150 different English words. You can find them on youtube or please read the following books:
When animals speak by Eva Meijer
Animal languages by Eva Meijer

Human self conscious intelligence is different.
It is. But there are lower forms of "intelligence in monkeys as seen by several you tube videos. In one case a monkey knows how to use a vending machine. In another case, an ape can put numbers from 1 to 10 in order. In any case, the books cited show that animals have a language different from humans. The ability to use and understand a language indicates a certain level of “intelligence”. Animal language is a method of communication somewhat different from human language and it takes a while to understand it.
I had a parakeet who could repeat 56 words.
There is a parakeet who can pick out various numbers when asked to do so.

Bye! Why are you posting it here though? Is it for attention? Or for people to beg you to stay?

Maybe this will help, maybe it won’t, but a Catholic priest came up with the Big Bang Theory. I don’t accept everything the Catholic Church teaches (because that’s human nature I guess, to search). But its by far the best church with the most rational beliefs compared to Evangelical Protestants.

Peace!!

This thread keeps coming to my mind. Consider, if you will, the possibility you may be experiencing a powerful temptation. Remember the words of St. Paul:

Eph 6:11-12
Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil. For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens.

Consider too the possibility that feelings, emotions, are playing a part here. Emotions are fickle, faith is a conviction.

I’ll be praying for you, brother; if you do this I think you are making a serious error and endangering your salvation.

I have also decided to leave the Catholic Church. I’m going to study the Anglican, Eastern Orthodox Church and Lutheran. I’ll make a decision by year’s end. God bless you on your journey. I’ll pray for you. Keep me in prayer too.

If you are a baptised Catholic you will remain a Catholic forever even if you walk away from the Church. You simply be a Catholic in a state of mortal sin putting your immortal soul in danger.

Not helpful. You don’t know the circumstances or the intent behind the decision to look at other faith traditions. So you shouldn’t be telling someone they are in mortal sin.

There are aspects of Catholicism that I didn’t fully comprehend or appreciate when I converted. I should have discerned more carefully. I won’t make that mistake again.

I was baptized in a Protestant church and confirmed Catholic. I converted as an adult.

Catholicism, despite the Eucharist has not brought me closer to Christ.

Being Catholic is unnecessary to have a relationship with Christ. There are millions of non-Catholic Christians that have strong Christian faith. The Reverend Billy Graham is a perfect example.

There is no salvation outside the Catholic Church. Once we say that it is not necessary to be Catholic but rather just follow Jesus, we are saying the sacraments do not matter. Very dangerous territory. This is problem for MANY Catholics; once they lose the tiniest bit of faith regarding the importance of the sacraments, the devil has won, and the probability of them leave the faith skyrockets.
