Hi, I’m new around here although I read these forums for a very long time.

I’ve always lived in a very secular city. I can honestly say I have never met anyone who was a practicing catholic. When I was younger I used to believe in God but after I was around 9 or so I just stop believing in Him. My mother believed in God but she always said priests were no good so the last time she was in a church was on her marriage.

Anyway, and trying to keep it short, I want to be baptized, I do have a child with my boyfriend, and he and his family are very anti catholic. Every time I try to bring the subject up they just raise a shield which I cant seem to break.

I believe I have a good enough understanding of the catholic teaching to know that one cant be baptized and live and wanting to continue to live in sin (we’re not married and he doesn’t want to). I was told some time ago, by a priest that the time wasn’t now, that the child still needed me and since I was happy I should just raise him with his father and then come back.

Since then I have strayed again from God, seems like I don’t belong there, I guess, but from time to time I just cry and pray for a solution which I can’t seem to get…
I’m afraid of going to another church and being rejected again, you can imagine the feeling.
So it seems I can’t become catholic because God decided to bless us with a child. A child I was told by doctors I could never have.

Sorry, I’m just really sad today, needed to share with someone 😦

Lostsoul, I don’t have time to make a complete response right now, but I wanted to let you know that I am going to be praying for you. If you would like, you could PM me your first name so I can use it in prayer (if you don’t want to, that’s OK too, don’t worry).

I will check back tomorrow night.

God be with you,
Jared

I will pray for you and I suggest you pray very hard every day for the strength/ will power to be able to end your life of sin. I’m happy you want to join the Mystical Body of Christ and I hope you follow through with that desire some day.

My heart and prayers go out to you. Keep the faith, God will allow this to happen in His time. Rest assured, He is with you…

You aren’t really lost, because Jesus always knows where you are because He is standing at your side. That Lady next to Him is His mom. And yours.

So. Maybe you could use your post as a template and compose an email to a Pastor of a Parish near you and explain how much you want to be baptized. Also, forgetting the family for a second, how does your child’s father feel about all of this?

I am going to suggest you buy a Rosary if you don’t own one and start praying, and also ask Saint Joseph for intercession. He’s the patron Saint of families. Also, nothing stops you from going to Mass. You just can’t receive the Eucharist. If your significant other won’t go, you go alone.

Please don’t make my mistake and not respond to the call you are feeling. I finally did get to the Church, but I am sure now my child’s life and mine would have been so much better if I had started years earlier. I don’t know when you will be able to formally enter the Church, but nothing can stop you from responding to God and living a Christian Catholic life.

God bless you abundantly, and we’ll always leave the door open for you and your family.

My heart goes out to you, lostsoul, I will be praying for you. Hang in there and God will help you through this when it is the right time. Don`t give up. God bless you.

If you are living alone and raising your child, there is nothing to prevent you from joining the RCIA and getting the basic spiritual foundation to eventually be baptized.

If you are living with your boyfriend, that complicates things, but as others have already mentioned, you can still come to hear Mass on Sundays, and you can still pray the Rosary.

Hi and Welcome!
Sometimes people come into church and their minds are a mile away! Even though you can’t receive yet, go anyway, and tell God everything that’s on your heart. Tell him that you want to be his daughter, that you want to be in heaven with him one day. Tell him that you wish you could give him a hug and a kiss like a daughter would when she comes to visit. You can pour out your heart to him and he will be listening like it was only you and him in the room. Ask God to strengthen you and help you every day and to make it so you can come into the church with baptism.

God bless you. Know there are many people praying for you today.

I think the bottom line here is that you need to do what God is putting on your heart to do. If that means becoming Catholic (which would be GREAT!), you need to take the steps to do so. Contact a parish priest and explain the situation. You can always go to Mass and attend RCIA as well (RCIA doesn’t mean you’re definitely going to choose to become Catholic, but it does give you an awesome chance to learn more about the Church, the Sacraments, etc.). If your boyfriend and his family have an issue with it, that doesn’t have to be YOUR issue. You do what YOU feel God is calling you to do. As someone above said, if you have a rosary, please start praying it! If you don’t have one and would like one, please private message me as I have many (nothing fancy, but they’ll serve their purpose for sure!) and I would be more than happy to send you one for free. I will be praying for you!

I can’t offer any step-by-step solution. But Jesus did tell us to ask God the Father for the things we need and there are a few saints who were in a similar situation as yours. Pray, because nothing is impossible with God. I will be praying for you.

I also recommend praying the rosary and asking our Mother Mary to pray on your behalf.

Trust your Priest. He said you weren’t ready for a reason. And it has nothing to do with you personally. It’s because your child needs you. Once you’re in a more stable situation, speak with your Priest again and I would bet things would progress very smoothly. Just keep praying for guidance and for peace. Pray for your boyfriend and his families heart to soften to the idea of you getting married and becoming Catholic. No matter how hopeless it feels, never lose hope. Christ is with you every moment of your life. And at your weakest moments, when you feel all alone in the world, that is when He shines. I would call in the meantime and see if you could meet up with RCIA classes. Even if you aren’t ready to officially join the Church, you could learn more in depth than what you know now. On top of that you’d meet a wonderful group of people who would be your support network and create an environment of Christ for you to be in, since you face nothing but negativity with the boyfriend and his family (at least in that regard). Know that you are doing the right. You are seeking Christ. Just keep seeking Him. Take care of your child and be prepared. He will call to you soon. And let me tell you, He is worth the wait. I would advise not passing up on Catholicism. You might find a sense of community with good people right away in a protestant or non denominational church but you won’t find Christ in fullness. You won’t find His real presence. And that is worth waiting for. Whether it took a couple months or the rest of your life. Nothing could be more important than our Lord and Savior. He has called you to receive Him in the Sacraments. Work with your Priest and trust in his word. He’ll know when you’re ready. As hard as it is in the meantime, just take his advice to heart and try and be humble about it (it’s very difficult). But I have faith you’ll be just fine. God Bless and welcome home!

ask your boyfriend why you are not good enough to be his wife.

You can still go to Mass, you could take RCIA classes to learn the faith. You can read the Bible and the Catechism. You can pray for your boyfriend.

Talk to other priests. A solution may be possible, be it sooner or later.

Lostsoul, I’m praying for you. Don’t give up on prayer, it’s God’s greatest gift to us besides Jesus Himself. It may seem like no one is listening but Someone is. And talk to Your guardian Angel and your baby’s guardian Angel. Through prayer and love even small shoulders can bear heavy crosses. May God bless you and your child.

Well, what is more important to you, your child and your boyfriend, or being baptized? Whether you get baptized or not, you are still going to have a son. Your boyfriend may or may not stay; I’d think that that would be a silly reason to leave someone, but I don’t know your BF so I can’t make that call.

Just think to yourself what is more important.

You have received some very good advice here. Without being baptized you can still learn how to be closer to Jesus-Christ. Praying is a tremendous step, and so is gaining knowledge of the holy life of Christ in the gospels – and the will of God in the whole bible.
When people see the good that christianity does in a person’s life, they often change their opinions. Bad opinions about christianity and the Catholic Church are generally based on misconceptions about bad experiences.
When we make a step towards God, he often makes many steps towards us. So if you can’t be baptized right now, keeping taking steps. Even a little step is a great victory.

I pray that God consoles you in this difficult situation.
Robert
