Yes, I believe Rev. is their official title. Fr. is more of a “term of endearment” that has become so commonplace, people aren’t even aware that it isn’t an official title. On my Church bulletin they are all listed as Rev. (Except for the pastor who’s official title is Rev. Msgr.)
And the deacons in my parish are listed as Rev. Mr.

I’ve never heard of this woman, but quite frankly she looks like a man to me.
That too. The first thing I thought when I saw the picture was “Lesbian!”

I think it was on page 5. Evidently the series of talks is entitled “Voice of the Faithful.” The irony is obvious. McBrien (no “Fr.” or “Rev.”) is this very day, THIS VERY DAY, giving a talk entitled “The Uses of Power and Authority in the Catholic Church.” Would anyone like to guess his view?

So in other words, you have a problem with her personally, and not necessarily with her article. If you have any specific problems with the contents of the article, here’s another chance to name them.

I’ve never heard of this woman, but quite frankly she looks like a man to me. Fully clothed anyway, and I shudder to imagine otherwise … who knows the real truth anyway? I can imagine it’s hard to accept teachings from what looks transgendered at best.

Oh, yeah, well there’s that whole thing about not making surface judgments based on appearances alone – then again I judge all books by their covers before deciding whether I’m even interested in cracking it open, as it were. 😉

Maybe this thread should be called, “I can’t believe this person quoted in the bulletin is actually a woman.” Good thing she’s a nun, or some poor guy might have had quite a surprise on his wedding night. OK, that’s probably over the line; I’ll stop now. 😛

A man dressed like a woman, dressed like a man? Confused? Yes, she is.

Actually, Voice of the Faithful is a lay organization that makes believe that it is faithful to the Magisterium and the teaching of the Church. They are actually very much in opposition of the Church. If they are sponsoring this talk, you can expect that it is no good.
Voice of the Faithful is a group of dissenters parading under the false guise of being centrist, apolitical, and faithful to the Magisterium. VOTF appeals to the frustration, hurt and anger that Catholics may feel as a result of the sexual scandals, in order to attract otherwise faithful Catholics to join them. Opposition to Church authority and moral teachings is advocated by prominent participants in this group.
Voice of the Faithful (VOTF) began in January 2002 and with strong media support ballooned to having a contact list of over 22,000 names with new branches (called “Parish Voices”) cropping up throughout the U.S. At a July 20 VOTF conference, with over 4,000 attendees, there were prominent speakers who are known to support homosexuality, abortion, contraception, female priests and generally throwing out many of the Church’s central teachings.
Deal Hudson (Crisis) points out that the VOTF website deceives faithful Catholics into believing it is a legitimate Catholic organization with slogans such as “support those who have been abused” and “support priests of integrity”. However, the group is tied to dissident, radical, anti-Vatican groups such as Call to Action and We are Church which strongly reject traditional Catholic moral principles.
The Massachusetts Catholic League also exposed the VOTF fraud in a July 22 story. League representative C.J. Doyle is quoted as saying “What we are witnessing here today is the cynical exploitation of a tragedy by dissidents with an agenda. When an organization which purports to be Catholic has a speaker affiliated with Planned Parenthood, it tells us all we need to know about its alleged Catholic credentials”. Doyle continued that “It is grotesque hypocrisy for an organization which claims to be Catholic to promote the views of those who reject Catholic doctrine and repudiate Christian morality…As an organization marketing itself as Catholic, Voice of the Faithful is engaged in consumer fraud.”
and here’s an interesting article that exposes them: catholicculture.org/docs/doc_view.cfm?recnum=4462

Guys, let’s try and keep in mind that two of a Catholic Christians most visible characteristics should be Charity and Humility.

Instead of attacking this woman, we should be attacking her views and her agenda. Instead of commenting on her manner of dress, her body shape, or allegations as to her sexual orientation, why don’t we instead try praying to the Holy Spirit to fill her with the Truth that can be found in the Catholic Church.

Using the words of one of our moderators:
We should pray that God would open her heart to the truth and the fullness of faith that can only be found in the Catholic Church.

I agree. We also need to pray for the people in the parish and diocese in which this bulletin was posted.

“Thou art Peter and upon this rock I shall build my Church and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” Mt. 16:18.

Have faith in the words of Jesus Christ. And in the words of our Beloved Pope who told us “Be not afraid”…hell cannot prevail against the faith, and the greatest weapon we have at our disposal is prayer. This woman has her opinion. Can she truly damage the Church? No, she cannot. She doesn’t have the power or the authority to do so…I love a quote from Chesterton…

“Through all these things they were all sure the Church was going to the dogs…in all cases, it was the dog who died…” (paraphrased)…G.K. Chesterton.

This too shall pass.

In God’s time, not ours.

This is very typical of me! I overlooked some pages.
Go to that same bulletin in the link above and see on page 5

The problem I had was that I found nothing particularly wrong with her article. I had no way to attack her except ad hominem.

That said, she has to have some idea what she looks like. She chooses not to wear traditional nun’s garb, and with her hair that way and all it she either doesn’t mind looking like that or she’s ignorant. I’d think the same way of a priest dressed in drag; whatever he’s comfortable with is fine with me.

At least she doesn’t have multiple facial piercings. 😃

Amen, and let us pray the same for all of us.
