I have been a Mormon all my life and to this day I can’t believe you all are other religions! If you read the Book of Mormon you would truly see it is true. I don’t know why you all choose to read anti materials and listen to EXMormons.

I feel bad for those who have lost the true gospel but there is always time to come back. I have been reading posts for about 6 months and have decided to join. I have always been interested in the whole Idea people are Catholic because they seemed a bit messed up. I mean you bow down to a Pope. So very sad.😦

We all need mercy and we all need God, I will follow Christ through His church. The LDS Church was not founded personally by Christ in the flesh.

Yes, that is what your church has brainwashed you to believe.

I see inflammatory and base-less claims in the future! I’m “looking forward” to fundmental major assertions with absolutely no evidence to back it up. Followed by responses with plenty of biblical and historical text to counter it which will be promptly ignored.

I have no desire to be anything other than what I am…I think most people feel that way about their religion

that’s it, you got me convinced! I’m a mormon now! thank Goodness that Joseph Smith was able to decipher the runes of the book of mormon. I totally believe he was telling the truth and not leading anyone astray. Glory to Joseph Smith in the highest. And peace to his people–on which planet is he a god?

That’s probably because you have been a Mormon all your life.
If you read the Book of Mormon you would truly see it is true.
Because I’ve read it I know it’s not.
I don’t know why you all choose to read anti materials and listen to EXMormons.
Because I’ve read the BoM.
I feel bad for those who have lost the true gospel
Who would that be? Christ said “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.” and “Lo, I am with you always (lit. in Greek “all of the Days”) until the end of the age.” You calling him a liar?
but there is always time to come back.
You’re right. Did so 20 years ago.

For whose were fortunate to be born into Orthodox families, come back to what? Being born in a Church nearly 2000 years old to an organization not yet two centuries old (and splintered to boot:eek: )?

Although the Vatican has gone astray, the pope there sits on Peter’s throne, and can trace his appointment, generation after generation, directly back to Christ Himself.

You bow to a “prophet” who doesn’t “prophecize” (I’m assuming that you are a Utah Mormon). So very sad:( .

Btw, beware angels of light, a warning your “prophet” should have heeded.

LOL What makes you think that?

Truth?

Nowhere. He’s amouldering here in Illinois.😦

And get it right! Hieroglyphs! It was in “reformed Egyptian” (an embarassment when the “Book of Abraham” was found and read by someone who actually could read Egyptian).

Btw, I seem to remember that the majority of the “witnesses” to the BoM plates later recanted. Any confirmation of my memory? I seem to recall that all of them were excommunicated except JS Jr.'s brother Hyrum (and picked successor: he was killed before JS Jr and is in the grave next to yours truly), brother Samuel (poisened by Brigham Young, according to the only surving brother William) and JS Sr. (a master mason (remember “temple ceremonies”) who designated Hyrum to succeed, and told his wife she was "
the mother of as great a family as ever lived upon the earth. . . . They are raised up to do the Lord’s work" Move over Theotokos:p ).

Welcome to the forums! I hope you enjoy your time here.

Perhaps if you could explain a bit about Mormonism we could discusses it better with you. Give me a compelling argument as to why I should join the Mormon Church.

Dear lizs1988,

I have read the book of Mormon from cover to cover. I found it to be full of historical impossibilities and quite self-contradictory. Can you give me some other reason to think Mormonism is the way to go? Cause reading that didnt work.

Is the following about a pope?
Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah! Jesus annointed that Prophet and Seer.Blessed to open the last dispensation, Kings shall extol him, and nations revere.

chorus: Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven! Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren; Death cannot conquer the hero again.

Praise to his memory, he died as a martyr; Honored and blest be his ever great name!
Long shall his blood, which was shed by assassins, Plead unto heaven while the earth lauds his fame.

Great is his glory and endless his priesthood: Ever and ever the keys he will hold.
Faithful and true, he will enter his kingdom, Crowned in the midst of the prophets of old.

Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven; Earth must atone for the blood of that man.
Wake up the world for the conflict of justice. Millions shall know “brother Joseph” again.

Nope. 😉

I love this Mormon hymn. It’s got nearly everything: Ol’ Joe being “martyred” (as opposed to dying in a gunfight after swilling a bottle of wine) and ascending to heaven of his own power, promises that he will come again (just like Jesus!), the concept of blood atonement, polytheism, etc. The only thing it lacks is praise for Joe’s wife-swapping and adultery.

The Book of Mormon is no more true than the Mother Goose stories.

Honey Bees are not indigenous to the Americas, neither are horses, camels, or wheat, unless you believe the BoM.

Neither was steel made in the Pre-Columbian Americas and ther is no evidence that any native peoples ever rode in chariots.

Where is there any evidence that there were great wars, and were are the bones of the unburied warriors?

I, too, have read the BoM and once believed it was true, but there are too many out & out lies in it. I wanted to believe the fairy tale, but alas truth is always truth and I have found it in the Catholic Church.

There are at least 4000 documented changes from the 1830 edition to today of “the most correct book of scripture” (LOL). There’s a critical edition coming out from BYU. All for a text less than two centuries.

I’ve read a great deal of it, not cover to cover, but enough to agree with Mark Twain’s summation of it:
“The book seems to be merely a prosy detail of imaginary history, with the Old Testament for a model; followed by a tedious plagiarism of the New Testament. The author labored to give his words and phrases the quaint, old-fashioned sound and structure of our King James’s translation of the Scriptures; and the result is a mongrel – half modern glibness, and half ancient simplicity and gravity. The latter is awkward and constrained; the former natural, but grotesque by the contrast. Whenever he found his speech growing too modern – which was about every sentence or two – he ladled in a few such Scriptural phrases as ‘exceeding sore,’ ‘and it came to pass,’ etc., and made things satisfactory again. ‘And it came to pass’ was his pet. If he had left that out, his Bible would have been only a pamphlet.”
From Roughing It

Spend more time reading the Holy Bible, not the BoM, and eventually you’ll be led by the Holy Spirit to the Truth.

Welcome to the Forum, lizs. 🙂

It’s obvious you know very little about Catholicism, so I hope your visits to CAF will help you to realize that for yourself. I’m sure the former LDS members here who are now Catholics will enjoy discussing your erroneous perspective.

Having met several times with LDS missionaries, read the Book of Mormon, the “King Follett Discourse”, A Marvelous Work and a Wonder - and even Missionary Pal, I saw nothing within Mormonism that would make me want to leave the Church Christ founded.

Here are a few links to articles on Mormonism from the perspective of the true Faith that might help you:

LOL. Welcome aboard. As Catholics we are very famliar with the syndrome of people believing things about us that are fed to them by anti-Catholics or by people ignorant of our history and teachings.

How is it possible for you to have been reading these forums for 6 months and taht you are “interested in the whole idea people are Catholic because they seemed a bit messed up” and yet appear not to have explored any of the documentation in the Catholic Answers Library and you toss in a dorky line like “I mean you bown down to a Pope”?

Are we trolling?

Sorry no idea which edition I read, but I’m sure whatever changes made since then (around 1995) didn’t help any.
