I just wrote a long drawn out explanation of why my father was in ICU and why he needed our prayers.

My post didn’t go through and I can’t bring myself to write and explain in full again.

I can’t cope. I am not like my family who are going about their daily lives and just taking it one day at a time.

Sometimes I can’t move and just sit in my car crying.

I feel so selfish. I’m not special, I should be able to snap out of this

I called my doctor and got a prescription for anxiety.

The only thing that gives me peace is never leaving his side.

He is not Catholic or a religious man for reasons I don’t want to explain again.

I have contacted my priest. He is so busy, and my father is not Catholic.

I’m so scared. I’m so exhausted. I need your prayers please. I just want him to not suffer and either get better or be at peace and see his mother, father, and little brother who have long since passed.

He is a good kind man and a US Army Vietnam veteran. He’s a hero and so special to me and my family.

Please, don’t judge, I just need prayers. Please, I’m so scared and distressed and exhausted.

Thank you.

I’m sorry, I’m distressed. If this is in the wrong thread, please move to correct category. I’m sorry.

I can’t cope, please help someone…

I’m praying for you too! I’ve been there, when my mom was in the ICU, and know how difficult it is. I hope you have some good supportive people to help, and I pray for your father’s recovery.

Praying for you! And I absolutely do not judge you; I was in a similar state when my mother was ill.

Anyone whose dearest have been in serious illness understands your grief and helplessness. No more so than Our Lady who watched helplessly at the death of her only Son. Go to her for comfort. Speak to the hospital pastor, even public hospitals have one. I have been near to death in ICU a couple of times and all I wanted was the hand of my dear wife and the care of my son. Stay with him as much as possible. My wife was allowed to stay overnight when things were really grim. Pray for your father’s soul as our Father doesn’t look at the cloth of his religion but the value of his soul. A man prepared to lay down his life for his country is a man of honour. Place his life in the hands of a loving God and do not be afraid. Many prayers are on their way.

Praying for both of you. And yes, as said above, there should be a hospital chaplain.

Praying the Divine Mercy chaplet for your Dad. Your grief is normal. Don’t be so hard on yourself.

I know how it feels to have a beloved parent in the ICU. You’re not alone, we will all pray for you and Jesus is by your side.

This kind of anxiety is very difficult to deal with and we all have our own way of coping. However, you have to do your best to take it day by day, and handle the challenges one at a time.

Spend as much time as you can with your dad, reassure him and tell him you love him. I hope your dad soon recovers his health and strength. God bless you all.

Eternal God , in whom mercy is endless,
and the treasury of compassion inexhastible ,
look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us ,
that in difficult moments we might not despair
nor become despondent , but with great confidence ,
submit ourselves to Your Holy Will ,
which is love and mercy itself . Amen

Memorare (Prayer to Our Lady)
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen

Try praying for the holy souls, when we pray for them they will pray for our prayer requests in return they are amazing intercessors…

Here’s what the catholic catechism says about praying for the holy souls in purgatory and how our prayers for them makes them pray for us in return.

958 Communion with the dead. "In full consciousness of this communion of the whole Mystical Body of Jesus Christ, the Church in its pilgrim members, from the very earliest days of the Christian religion, has honored with great respect the memory of the dead; and ‘because it is a holy and a wholesome thought to pray for the dead that they may be loosed from their sins’ she offers her suffrages for them."500 Our prayer for them is capable not only of helping them, but also of making their intercession for us effective

Here’s some prayers that you may want to pray

Also read the links in my post, they may be of help too

Praying for you and your dad,

God bless you

I will also pray a Divine Mercy chaplet for you and for your dad. I also echo seeing the hospital chaplain. What you are experiencing is normal and okay. Let your body grieve. Do you have any friends you can reach out to support you as you go through this? If so, don’t be afraid to talk to them. Draw closer to Jesus and ask Him to help you carry this cross. He wants to be close to us, especially during times like these. God bless.

Jesus, I trust in You!

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Prayer for a Miracle

God of all creation, you who spoke a simple command and brought forth light from
the darkness, I ask you now to send forth your miracle-working power to heal debradee and her Father. You cleansed the lepers, opened the eyes of the blind and by
speaking a simple command, you empowered the crippled to rise up and walk.
You sent forth your life-giving power to all those in need, including those you raised from
the dead. I ask you to send forth your healing power into debradee and her Father’s body and give him the strength to fight his illness. I ask this through my Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

For Help in Trials

Most holy apostle St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor who delivered your beloved Master into the hands of His enemies has caused you to be forgotten by many. But the Church honors and invokes you universally as the patron of hopeless cases–of things despaired of. Pray for me who feels so hopeless. Make use, I implore you, of that particular privilege accorded to you of bringing visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need, that I may receive the consolations and succor of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, in particular debradee and her Father), and that I may bless God with you and all the elect throughout eternity. I promise you, O Blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, and I will never cease to honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to do all in my power to encourage devotion to you. Amen.

Prayer to Saint Maximilian Maria Kolbe

St. Maximilian, amidst the hate and lonely misery of Auschwitz, you brought love into the lives of fellow captives and sowed the seeds of hope amidst despair. You bore witness to the world by word and deed that “Love alone creates.” Help me to become more like you. With the Church and Mary and you, may I proclaim that “Love alone creates.” To the hungry and oppressed, the naked and homeless, the scorned and hated, the lonely and despairing, may I proclaim the power of Christ’s love, which endures forever and ever. Amen.

I feel for you and pray for you and your father. when my mother was dying my sister kept it from me until it was too late to say my final good-bys. She knew that I was 9oo miles from home, but could have got “home” if informed of the situation. My mother passed in the morning and I didn’t get there until afternoon. So I understand and feel your pain, as well as pray for you.

I don’t know why people do what they do or how they act; there must be a reason. Each of us grieve in our own way and in our own time. I still grieve for my mother after all these years, but the sharp edges of grief do become less painful over time.

I think, my sister, being a nurse, was trying to be in a control mode, but things did not work out well. I forgive her, as you should consider that your family are going about their business out of “necessity” or in that they are trying to manage their own pending grief and pain. That you can be at your father’s side is a special grace and blessing. Again, I will pray for all concerned. Peace.

I will pray for you and your dad when I say Evening Prayer tonight. It will pass, stay strong, I know what you are going through.

Praying for you and your father…
*O most beautiful Flower of Mount Carmel, Fruitful Vine, Splendor of Heaven, who brought forth the Son of God still remaining a Virgin, assist us in this necessity.
O Star of the Sea, help us, and show us that you are our Mother.

O Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and earth, we humbly ask you from the depths of our heart to help us in this necessity. There are none who can withstand your power.
O show us that you are our Mother.

O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee. Sweet Mother, we place this cause in your hands. Amen.*
