I read stuff about lukewarmness and full devotion to Jesus and I don’t know what to do. I don’t know how to abandon self love, because my reason for being anxious about this is out of self love (fear of hell). I get really wound up about this and usually it ends with me angry and bitter at God. I wanted to ask for prayer that I can be converted from this state I’m in, and the fortitude to persevere.

Hey buddy. Look I totally get where you’re at right now.

But here’s the thing, k?

Please don’t be afraid to not worry.

Do you know what I’m saying here? Do you see the truth right there close and clear?

This whole life is really a trust exercise in triplicate. This whole stay is about us working towards a state of being where we can close our eyes and step out into the beyond in trust and sureness. In love and good feeling. In peace and one-heartedness.

We’re not here to avoid hell so much as we’re here to learn the key to finding heaven. When you’re focused only on hell you’re like a guy climbing a mountain backwards. I mean you’re like a guy so afraid of falling as he tries to get to the top that he’s only looking back the way he came. Of course that’s a lot harder to find handholds on the way up when you do that. Of course that’s really a way to get dizzy fast and fall deep.

God’s got his hand on the pulse of your life. He’s not anxious for you to fail. He’s anxious for you to succeed. So really. Please don’t be afraid to just let go of your fear and just try to reach a steady state of forward movement. Even if by small inches? It still gets you closer to the goal.

Keep your eye on the summit. Keep the movement forward and positive. Negativity’s a trick to pull you back to ground.

And yeah. I’ll pray for you. Don’t worry.

Peace Bdonoho.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Jesus, Help Me!

In every need let me come to You with humble trust,
saying:
Jesus, help me!
In all my doubts, perplexities, and temptations:
Jesus, help me!
In hours of loneliness, weariness and trials:
Jesus, help me!
In the failure of my plans and hopes, in disappointments,
troubles and sorrows:
Jesus, help me!
When others fail me, and Your Grace alone can assist me:
Jesus, help me!
When I throw myself on Your tender Love as Savior:
Jesus, help me!
When my heart is cast down by failure, at seeing no good
come from my efforts:
Jesus, help me!
When I feel impatient, and my cross irritates me:
Jesus, help me!
When I am ill, and my head and hands cannot work and
I am lonely:
Jesus, help me!

Always, always, in spite of weakness, falls and short-
comings of every kind:
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, help me and never forsake me!

Amen

Dear God, give me courage,
for perhaps I lack it more than anything else.

I need courage before men against their threats
and against their seductions.

I need courage to bear unkindness,
mockery, contradiction.

I need courage to fight against the devil,
against terrors and troubles, temptations,
attractions, darkness and false lights,
against tears, depression, and above all fear.

For Help in Trials

Most holy apostle St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor who delivered your beloved Master into the hands of His enemies has caused you to be forgotten by many. But the Church honors and invokes you universally as the patron of hopeless cases–of things despaired of. Pray for me who feels so hopeless. Come to my assistance in this great need, that I may receive the consolations and succor of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, in particular (Bdonoho), and that I may bless God with you and all the elect throughout eternity. I promise you, O Blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, and I will never cease to honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to do all in my power to encourage devotion to you. Amen.

Thanks for sharing that Bdonoho. I know it must be challenging and difficult to admit. For me it helps to remember that God isn’t some sort of examiner or trickster looking to “trap” us. He actually wants us to be with Him! So He knows your efforts, He knows your difficulties, and knows how hard you try. He knows that and will reward you for that! Prayed for you in Evening prayer today.:signofcross:

WOW. 👍

I just wanted to say that was inspiring. I hope it’s not copyrighted, I might have to steal it from you. 😉

I agree with Trident you gotta keep your eyes on the prize. Our sins are in the past, if we are truly sorry and confess those sins God doesn’t give them another thought.

One thing that really helped me was to immerse myself in Catholic teaching. I no longer listen to secular radio. When I’m driving, or sitting at the computer or working around the farm, basically every waking moment that I am alone. I am listening to a youtube video or a podcast in the background. My favorite is Catholic Answers Live. But I also listen to EWTN’s Open line Monday and Called to Communion. If you want current events The Terry and Jesse show is great. If you are a younger guy look up The Catholic Man Show. All are great and give good Catholic teaching. If you keep surrounding yourself with the good stuff and keep the bad worldly stuff away from your ears those thoughts will be a thing of the past.

Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Act of Hope and Confidence in God
Saint Claude de la Colombiere
:signofcross:
My God,
I believe most firmly that You watch over all who hope in You,
and that we can want for nothing when we rely upon You in all things.
Therefore I am resolved for the future…to cast all my cares upon You.
People may deprive me of worldly goods and status.
Sickness may take from me my strength and the means of serving You.
I may even jeopardize our relationship by sin, but my trust shall never leave me.
I will preserve it to the last moment of my life, and the powers of hell shall seek
…… in vain to grab it from me.
Let others seek happiness in their wealth and in their talents.
Let them trust in the purity of their lives,
the severity of their mortifications,
in the number of their good works,
the enthusiasm of their prayers,
as for me, my Rock and my Refuge, my confidence in you fills me with hope.
For You, my Divine Protector, alone have settled me in hope.
“This confidence can never be vain. No one, who has hoped in God, has
…… ever been confounded.”
I am assured, therefore, of my eternal happiness,
…… for I firmly hope in it and all my hope is in You.
“In You, O loving God, have I hoped: let me never be confounded.”
I know too well that I am weak and changeable. I know the power of
…… temptation against the strongest virtue.
I have seen stars fall and foundations of my world crack;
…… these things do not alarm me.
While I hope in You, I am sheltered from all misfortune,
…… and I am sure that my trust shall endure,
…… for I rely upon You to sustain this unfailing hope.
Finally, I know that my confidence cannot exceed Your generosity, and that I
…… shall never receive less than I have hoped for from You.
Therefore I hope that You will sustain me against my evil inclinations,
…… that You will protect me against the deceitful attacks of the evil one,
…… and that You will cause my weakness to triumph over every hostile force.
I hope that You will never cease to love me and that I shall love You unceasingly.
“In You, O loving God, have I hoped: let me never be confounded.”

St. Claude de la Colombiere, pray for us!

Prayer for Medical Doctors
O merciful Father,
Who have wonderfully fashioned man in Your own image,
and have made his body to be a temple of the Holy Spirit,
sanctify, we pray You, our doctors and nurses and all those whom you have called to
…study and practice the arts of healing the sick and the prevention of disease and pain.
Strengthen them in body and soul,
and bless their work,
that they may give comfort to those for whose salvation Your Son became Man,
lived on this earth, healed the sick,
and suffered and died on the Cross.
Amen.

Apology and Thanksgiving Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Creator of all and source of all goodness and love,
please look kindly upon us,
as we ask for forgiveness for not giving You thanks.
Please receive our heartfelt apology for the lack of gratitude.
Remind us at all times that You are always worthy of our thanks.

Thank You, Heavenly Father,
for all the graces and blessings
You have bestowed upon us:
our faith and religious heritage;
the Priests who bring us the Sacraments;
our life, food and shelter;
our health, the love we have for one another;
our Police Officers and Firefighters who keep us safe;
our Soldiers and Veterans who fight and fought for our Country;
our family and friends.
Thank You for the people You so generously send us;
…everything You grant us
…and of which we are not even aware.
Dear Father, in Your infinite generosity, please grant us the grace of having
…less “give me” and more gratitude throughout the coming
…years so that we may be aware that anything from You is good
…for You turn the “bad” into blessings for us.
Please Lord, grant us the grace of not forgetting that we can thank You
…over and over again for the same gift – and if we
…forget, may our Guardian Angel remind us.
Thank You, Lord.
I Love You, Lord.
Amen… …by Luz María

PRAYER FOR
TRUE SPIRITUAL VISION

May the Lord Jesus place His hands on our eyes
that we may begin to catch sight
of the things that are not seen
more than the things that are seen.

May He open our eyes
that they will alight on the things to come
more than on the things of this age.

May He unveil the vision of our heart
that it may contemplate God in spirit.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ
to whom belongs glory and power for ever.

Amen.

Praying for you.

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)

I heard someone who has been in prayer and healing ministry for others for almost 40 years say recently that one of the biggest issues he finds when praying with others is that they don’t seem to really know or believe deep down inside them that God loves them. Sure, some of them might know intellectually that God loves them but they don’t seem to know it in their hearts. He says that part of the problem is that our experience of love is often tainted by what we have experienced from others. And the kind of love that we experience is often a conditional love, that is a love that is conditioned on your performance. If I am good then you will love me and I am rewarded. But, if I am doing poorly than I am not loved or punished. And also our own perception of God is tainted by how our own fathers treated us especially in our formative years. If we were treated harshly by our fathers we tend to see God as overly harsh. We feel like we don’t measure up or are not good enough. But, none of that is actually true with God who loves us much differently than what we may have experienced with our own fathers. Since God’s love is not a conditional love based on our performance (Isn’t that good news?), but rather an agape or unconditional love that is based in God’s nature of perfect love. Thus, there is nothing you can do to make God love you any more or less than he already does. He already loves you. He already cares about you. And he is fair towards you. He treats you not as a slave but as a son. Everything he does for you and to help you grow and mature in him is for your benefit. So there is nothing to fear from him as he is on your side. He has your ultimate benefit in mind. Our mission is to simply become more merciful like he is. And we need to be patient with ourselves like he is. He is much more patient with us than we are with ourselves. We think that we are so bad sometimes. But the truth is there are many good things about you that you may not even realize. If you are always focused on the negative you will miss the good. Scripture tells us to think upon whatever is good and excellent and to rejoice in the Lord and thank him constantly and the Peace that surpasses all understanding will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Do you know that God loves you? I mean really know in your heart? I would recommend you pray and meditate on God’s unconditional love for you.

.

You know what Jesus said to the people of Laocedia that were lukewarm? He told them to return to their first love. Isn’t that beautiful? . Please meditate on this. Meditate on how much Jesus loves you and how he demonstrated this love for you. What really motivates us to not be lukewarm about anything is love. How can you be lukewarm towards someone who truly loves you? It is that love that changes us. That is what we need in our hearts.

Read and meditate on Philippians 4:4-9

Thank you fisherman Carl. That was just what I realized before I came here. The answer had to be love. I think the ease with which one can become lukewarm has been tempting me to despair but I think that is because I was more focused on avoiding mortals in than on loving Jesus.

Pray the Divine Mercy chaplet daily instead of climbing the mountain backward.

I sooooo get where the OP is coming from -

I just had this inspiration - think of the most merciful person you know - the kindest person - one who always forgives - one who is known for pure compassion - and then remind yourself (ourselves) that this person’s mercy cant even begin to TOUCH the level of Gods…is not even in the same ballpark…God’s mercy so out weighs, out loves this person - that we as humans cant even begin to understand it…He wants us SO much…He will use any tiny piece of us, every small piece we give Him - He will use it to make us His…(even when it seems miniscule - even when that’s all we have - the mustardseed)…our job is to keep doing what we can, and to have HOPE and faith and knowledge of His love for us when we fall down…I fall down every single day…

**We beseech Thee, O Lord, to grant us the pardon of our sins by the intercession of Saint , virgin and martyr, who was always pleasing in Thy sight by her eminent chastity and by the profession of every virtue. Amen.

Illustrious virgin and martyr, Saint Philomena, behold me prostrate before the throne whereupon it has pleased the Most Holy Trinity to place thee. Full of confidence in thy protection, I entreat thee to intercede for me with God, from the heights of Heaven deign to cast a glance upon thy humble client! Spouse of Christ, sustain me in suffering, fortify me in temptation, protect me in the dangers surrounding me, obtain for me the graces necessary to me, and in particular those who need it most.

Above all, assist me at the hour of my death. Saint Philomena, powerful with God, pray for us. Amen.

O God, Most Holy Trinity, we thank Thee for the graces Thou didst bestow upon the Blessed Virgin Mary, and upon Thy handmaid Philomena, through whose intercession we implore Thy Mercy. Amen.
