You nailed it! Our task is to keep ourselves in a continual state of prayer and praise before God. When we have this attitude of connection and openness to Him, (praying all day) we experience the Kingdom of God most fully in this life. When we are giving thanks for things that annoy us, and rejoicing in His life, all the things that annoy us will fall away.

Oh I think you are describing a situation that is completely and typically human! In fact I venture to say that God brings people into our lives, and places us in situations that become a camelā€™s hair shirt for us! This is His way of perfecting our character.
 
Hello. Digressing, but just a little.

I once did this. It was during a period in my life when I loved to wear overalls. I had about 5 different pairs of overalls, and one was orange. I also had this dark black watch plaid pair that was instrumental in me getting a sofa on sale. Anyway, the people at the animal shelter thought I was an incarcerated person and treated me differently than the usual volunteers. Ever since then Iā€™ve been scared to volunteer to clean out cages. Maybe itā€™s time to get over that. But then someone said something to me & I burst into tears. And all Iā€™d wanted to do was pet dogs and cats and the whole thing got me scared to ever again volunteer at an animal shelter.
 
Top of the class. CAF Insight of the week. I never thought of that. We can actually see ā€œarroganceā€ as an asset ā€¦well in a way. Itā€™s not all bad anyway.
In our secular lives we need some arrogance I believe to survive. Certainly being a doormat doesnā€™t help. Maybe God doesnā€™t mind us having some ā€œswaggerā€ as long as we are humble towards Him. ā€¦mmmmm, it is debateable. Thanks for your interesting post.

An investigation is worthwhile. What is arrogance? It is the thinking that we are better than someone else, which stems from the want of dominance, the desire to dominate.

Well, the thinking that I am actually better than anyone else would be a position of complete ignorance, and there would be plenty of people ready-and-waiting to explain this to me! šŸ˜€

At the same time, though, while desire for dominance enslaves us, we can certainly ā€œwatch itā€, and such watching dissipates the imperative it pushes - (to push others down so that we come up on top).

Of course, such desire for dominance has plenty of positive application on the tennis court and the philosophy forum. šŸ™‚ Nah, maybe ā€œworld newsā€ is where it comes out the mostā€¦

How is that beam? Is it a little more comfortable now?

But in secular reality we are better than othersā€¦in our more talented area. I might be good at English Lit. and think Iā€™m smarter than you but youā€™re smarter at Math and Science.
From Godā€™s point of view we are all equal which I think is what you mean. All daughters and sons of God. But that sounds so communist to me. šŸ™‚ As if each of us arent special. šŸ™‚

Iā€™ll never forget the time that standing in front of me were two four-year-old cousins (boys). One said ā€œI am THIS bigā€, and held held his little hand as high as he could over his head. The other, thus inspired, said ā€œWell I am THIS bigā€, as he did the same while stretching his tippy-toes as far as he could.

When we see such similar behavior displayed in adults, we can smile with a bit of ā€œme tooā€ and transform the blaming ā€œpostā€ feeling into a look upon the display as that from children who have failed to grow in wisdom or humility. Yeah, itā€™s ā€œarrested developmentā€, but what do we do? Blame hardly helps, as you would probably agree.

You know, the title of this thread would make a great Onion articleā€¦

Thank you for admitting as much. We all have that cringe feeling when others ā€œscrape their fingernails on a blackboardā€ to use a metaphor. Say thing which just make us feel nauseous.
Yet generally we donā€™t have that feeling about ourselves. Oh sinful me! šŸ™‚

Every human being has an innate desire to be special, and to be the apple of someoneā€™s eye. God created us so that we love to be loved! When we find our specialness in Him, then everything with others falls into place.
 
Yeah. I donā€™t recommend it for content. I love the silly news stories like the ones I posted here though.

I like your response here. We do have an innate desire to be special, hence our sinful need to be superior to others.

plenty of room in my lounge room on superbowl day. much more crowded for the rugby.
