I confess that I gave my dad a box of chocolates for his birthday a year ago. Upon receiving the gift, my dad remarked that this is the kind of gift I should be giving to a lady friend, not to him. I didn’t say anything at the time, but the chocolates were originally intended for a lady friend, but things went south before I could give her the chocolates, so I gave them to my dad instead. I feel bad, because my dad was really happy to receive them, and he still makes that remark that I should’ve given it to a lady friend.

Moral of the story? Never give your old man a box of chocolates.

My dad loves chocolates. I frequently give him a box on his birthday and Father’s Day. In fact, if he doesn’t get a box of chocolates, I think he’s kind of disappointed. To his credit, he’ll give a piece or two to my “lady friend” (his daughter-in-law) if she begs enough. 🙂

My dad - chocolate covered cherries!! He won’t buy them for himself, so, he appreciates them as a gift. He will usually share one with me!!

I used to have to give my dad a box of chocolates and a box of chocolates to my mom too because they used to fight over the chocolates. My mom used to hide the box of chocolates under the sofa. My dad would hardly get any.

My dog would sniff out the fancy chocolates from under the sofa. My mom would try to give my dog a chocolate and I would fight her to not give my dog some. Chocolate is bad for dogs.

I love gag gifts for following year if someone remarks on what I give them. This year try a jar of pickled pigs feet. And ask him if “Chocolate” is better or if he prefers his new gift.

Hey Jerry, Your parents don’t live forever so you need to give them something they will not want to spend their money on.

Goodies are very popular with parents. If I was to have given my dad a jar of pickled pig feet he would have screamed with JOY! He used to love that stuff and so did I. I used to buy my dad his favorite goodies like peanuts, cans of mixed nuts, candies, apple pies,
pecan pies, and his favorite take out food was Chinese. He loved Chinese food until one day he said he was not Chinese and was tired of eating Chinese food.lol. I started taking him BBO Ribs, or take -out hamburgers, pastrami, etc.

Those foods were high in colestoral but… hey… he didn’t have any medical problems.
He died in his bed at the age of 96yrs.old.

It is important to treat our parents right by buying them the foods they like to eat.
We all have to be creative in giving our parents gifts. They don’t want much…just that we remember them at their birthdays.
